Widefoot Racing

my10ae and myself dropped in on Widefoot Racing this weekend. David (owner of Widefoot Racing) is in the process of setting up a permanent shop in Hillsboro, NH with facilities to do R&D, CNC machining, engine testing, etc... He will be setup to do practically any custom job.

He has made several custom parts for RX-7s such as brake caliper brackets for larger rotors, sway bar mounts, cooling ducts for front brakes, and a "widefoot" throttle pedal extension to make toe & heel easier. The sample parts that we saw looked well designed and the quality was top notch. I'm definitely looking forward to see how David will apply his ingenuity to the RX-8 in the coming months.

While we were there David mentioned that he would like to expand his range of products to also include the RX-8. Right now he is looking for suggestions from people who own RX-8s. Here are a few that we came up with:
  • Harness bar
  • Custom brackets for racing seats
  • Fender strakes
  • Carbon fiber brake ducts
  • Oil dipstick that is easier to reach and read
  • "Widefoot" throttle pedal extension

If you can think of other items that you would like to see for the RX-8 please add them to this thread. Thanks!

Longer clutch pedal assembly or shorter accelerator pedal assembly. After building a clutch pedal extension myself (see https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=13709 ) I can honestly say it makes a HUGE difference in how comfortable the car is to drive. However, a better solution would be a replacement assembly for the clutch pedal or accelerator. If they build these, I will definitely buy one, and I have a feeling quite a few other people will as well.

Thanks...

Speed Racer, good to see you again today...it's been a long time Anyways, David seems like a a nice guy with all the right equipment. I think the idea's that were brought up today were very good and should be well accepted in RX-8 community. If anyone else has any idea's for enhancements for the 8, please post them up on this thread.

Kudo's to David and his crew at Widefoot Racing.

A few other ideas were brought up on this thread.
  • Engine management
  • Exhaust manifold
  • Lighter pulleys that are harmonically balanced
  • Light weight flywheel
  • Twin-plate clutch
  • Larger throttle body
  • Modify porting on rotor housing

Good to see there are several NH 8s out there. I am from Londonderry well spent most of my time in Nashua, but am currently stationed in New Mexico (one hell of a climate difference) Hopefully I will be taking a road trip out that way this coming summer with my 8, we will have to all get together for sure!

YES! I've taped a rubber block (1.5")on my clutch pedal and WHAT A DIFFERENCE in driving (I'm 5'8"). It's the best mod I've done to make my driving style less jerky and WAY more comfortable!

Now, my right foot is out straight, my seat is back, I'm away from the wheel enough to be comfortable finally, AND I CAN STILL SHIFT without reaching my toe out pointy style or shifting to the left in the seat or alternatively getting all bunched up at the wheel before the mod.

Make a better solution and I'll get it too!

Spin9K, glad you like the idea too. I'm 6 foot, but most of my height is in my torso, so changing the pedal "length" helped me too.

Speed Racer, how about you suggest ADJUSTABLE pedal replacements?

Also, there's a whole 'nother thread that just got going discussing performance enhancements that can be done to the 8 other than intake, exhaust, and FI. Check it out at: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=14703

Thus far, the most interesting things to come up are:
- Lightweight pulleys, standard size or underdrive
- Lightweight flywheel
- Replacement differential gears
- Twin-plate/Strengthened clutch

4 inch, rotary shaped exhaust tips. Seriously.

And LESS EXPENSIVE side strakes. $200+ is ridiculous.

Gimme time, I'll think of more...

Here's what the photoshopped up tips look like. Check out this thread for more details: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=15050

So Speed Racer, how does Widefoot Racing feel about the suggestions thus far? Are they beginning development on any of them?

And here's another BIG suggestion, and one that might be right up their alley: A thoroughly massaged "crate motor" version of the Renesis, built stronger and lighter, with massaged intake and exhaust ports, etc. Perhaps one with forced induction. See this thread for exact details on what I'm talking about: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=14703
