Wolf to develop PnP ECU, need donor car in Sacramento area
If anybody in the Sacramento, CA area is willing to donate their car for a couple weeks, Wolf EMS will develop a plug and play ECU. The donor will receive an ECU for free, which is basically worth $1400 or so. This isn't something like an eManage, this is a bonafide stand-alone ECU, that will be tuned for plug-in operation.
Applicants need to contact Chris Greene at 916-648-8000. Tell him Ryan Scott sent you, and ask what all the job will entail.
Chris is an expert tuner, and at no point will your car be in any danger or blowing up or anything like that. Just give him a call if interested, and decide for yourself. I'm just relaying the message for him.

Just curious if anybody has called Chris about this yet, since there have been almost 100 views.
Chris has already developed a circuit to integrate with the throttle-by-wire, and I'm anxious to see what he can do with the car. I bet it would be the answer for a lot of people.

Figured I would chime in with some support. Wolf develops top of the line stand-alone management systems. They have their own section on Rx7club.com if need some reading to make you feel more comfortable. This is a great chance to get the first fully tunable stand-alone. If anyone has the ability to develop a working standalone, it’s them.

If they could make do with just the ECU I'd be glad to send mine next month since I'll be out of town for 2 1/2 weeks. If they need the whole car, then it's not as easy to ship a car clear across the country.

Too bad I live in NY I would gladly donate my car for the project, any improvement in this engine managment would be great. I'm thinking if someone doesn't crack this stock ecu soon, then the only choice is a stand-alone.

It'll be a plug and play ECU, no different than Canzoomers Stage 2 (or whatever it's called). But unlike the CZ Stage 2, it's not based on some pos ECU. The Wolf is a true do-it-all capable stand-alone ECU with way more power and resolution than an eManage. With what Chris will develop, you'll be able to either plug it in and never touch it, or hook up the LCD handheld controller and change whatever you want ... and either way it will come with a good base map that's NOT based on something as wishy-washy as modifying the AFM voltage. It'll be fuel/ignition modification the right way, certain ECU signals it will intercept and block, sending it's own of the right tuning parameters, other ECU signals will pass through for systems you don't want to mess with.
I can't believe somebody hasn't jumped all over this yet.

Heh, I wonder if there's any frustrated FI developers who just put their projects on hold after reading this?
So...I assume this doesn't interfere with things like traction control, airbags, etc., I guess the stock ECU still controls those? BTW, do they have any sort of ETA for how long they would need a car? Not that I'm anywhere nearby...

ok, so this is a standalone and would completely replace the current ecu? Wow, that can't be a bad thing. But I can always revert and plug back the oem ecu if any warranty issues appears right?

No, it wouldn't replace the current ECU ... it would however, replace some of the signals from the ECU. No Aftermarket ECU right now can do EVERYTHING that the stock ECU can do, the stocker just does too much stuff. So instead of piggy-backing the stock ECU and modifying it's signals, which is a hack, the Wolf would intercept certain signals replacing them with it's own.
Chris will call back if you left him a message ...
How did I get roped into answering so many questions for him? Seriously, just call him if you want to know more about this.

well talk to Chris today, went through a lot of details. Like boostd said its a standalone w/ a fly by wire and it'll offer complete control in regards of ignition timing and retain all factory controls. Man the guy knows A LOT, he said the schematics are totally identical to the rx7s so it would be problem to get the whole project done within a week to 2 weeks. He'll get me more information tomorrow. Gave me a lot of information to swallow in two minutes lol.

Interesting...so its a stand-alone that DOESN'T replace the stock ECU. I wonder how it fools the stock ECU into thinking everything's still working properly...does it feed dummy signals back to the stock unit?

A truly good stand alone ECU is exactly what this car needs for FI or NoS applications (Hymee, are you listening?!? ). Damnit, I wish I could get Chris to come to Colorado to do this... I would have no problem loaning him my '8 for this project...
