My working switchblade stats match. So Im thinking you have the right hardware.

dumb question but are you holding the trunk release for a good duration of time?

I figured out a few days ago that that was the case, that I had to hold the trunk and panic buttons down for them to work.

I'm afraid this question has been asked and answered but I haven't found it in these 19 pages:
Can I just reprogram one stock 04 key fob or do I need to reprogram all of the ones I have at the same time? (If I reprogram one fob, does that mean the 2nd fob has to be reprogrammed?) Not sure if this makes sense...

Here's a question.

A few years back, I decided to make a copy of my key, (just in case type thing) to leave in the sock drawer.

I went to the local dealer, purchased a Blank, for about US$20 (NZ $29). Then went to a key cutter, got the key cut. So far so good.

Here's the thing.

I tested the key. It doesn't open the door. i.e. I can't manually unlock the car with the key. However, it works fine in the ignition, if I use the remote to get into the car.

Am I right in assuming my key is a 'transponder' key, so wont let me in the car, but works in the ignition ok, because the way I got into the car was via remote (and that disabled the immobilizer) Or is it just a dodgy cut?

I wonder if I could start the car if I manually unlock using the original key, and trying the new key in the ignition...going to try that now, but any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Dean
P.S. Buy Yogi Bear on 3D Bluray, Bluray or DVD. K thx.

I've always heard the problem the other way around. Usually having the key cut, but not programmed will result in you being able to access the car, but not start it.

I had the same problem. I think the door lock is a lot pickier as far as rough cuts go. My key works perfectly in the ignition, but if my remote battery dies, I'm screwed.

I think you will find that the ignition will be worn where as the door lock will hardly be used if you have remote access - I replaced a key and it wouldn't manually unlock the door.

It did work however after a good spray of teflon in the lock on the door

I tried the RD-7/WD40 on the locks (boot and door), and whaddya know, worked like a charm. Obviously, they haven't been used since 2003 and were stiff.

Next up is a switchblade style key/remote.

Good call, and thank you.
P.S. I strongly urge you all to go out and buy the Yogi Bear Bluray or DVD...or even better, both!

Good point. I have used my OEM key in the lock a couple times and it works fine, but a bit of lube might save my.. nevermind, not going to finish that sentence.

Hello, I have a problem here and hope u can help me. i have 05 rx8, bought it used with 1 normal key and 1 switch blade keyless entry remote.

i lost my keyless entry remote and after that i bought one keyless entry remote with un-cut blade from ebay, i programe the switch blade keyless entry remote and its working fine, doors, trunk and panic buttons are working properly. today i took that remote and my simple key which i got with my rx8 to mazda dealer to cut the blade (rx8 is parked in my garage because of snow). after coming back i try to start the car with new cutted blade but nothing, let me explain u in details, i gave the simple key and my newly programmed remote to dealer and he cut the blade.

i can open close the doors with that and when i put new key blade in ignition it turns smoothly and show all lights normal but when i try to crank the enging nothing happend and key light start blinking fast. the bottom line is "new blade doing everything but not cranking the engine"

Any helps?

Thx in advance

the new switchblade key blank is cut to fit the locks, but the transmitter is NOT programmed to the ignition. You have to take the car to them or a locksmith with the capability to PROGRAM A KEY, not the remote...a key. Please re-read this thread, in its entirety.

I have an 07 GT package and I need a new smart card for my car. How do I go about finding which FCC ID number that I need so it's compatable with my car and my existing smart card so I won't have any problems?

Please let me know.

This is about the switch blade key FOB... You'd probably have to inquire through your dealer of the Visteon model and FCC #. Just provide your car's VIN.

Hey guys i recently purchased an uncut key with a remote from an ebay store claiming it would work with and rx8. i tried programming the remote for it to work following the instructions down to the T, and attempted it about 15 times with absolute no luck!

after all this i decided to come back to the forums to look up some more info the key is a 3 button one but its fine for me dont mind manually opening the trunk. i tried looking for the ffc id and all the other info you guys have posted but my remote appears to be completely different.. heres the info it has on the inside and a picture let me know what you guys think

It is a switchblade but not for an RX-8. I have seen it for the early Mazda3s. I was considering that two years ago. Try asking for a refund; otherwise, request for the right one. The info you need is inthese threads.
