DIY: Dry CF console side plate wrap
#26
Uh...you mean the actual seat fabric or the hard plastic base?
If you mean the actual seat fabric I would not suggest it. The stuff they use for seats are much thicker than cloth thickness. It would shift all over the place and look wrinkly, I don't think it's a good idea.

It could be done, the wrap is only $35 and is quite strong so give it a shot and I want to see a DIY if you pull it off! Even with initial cuts when using a razor, unless it cut through it was very tough to pull apart when creating the patterns.

I just got my Neffy wrap in last night If all goes as planned i'm going to be doing this tonight. Not doing the shift ring, but I will be doing the switch covers on the doors.

Here's the window switch covers. It looks AWESOME in the car - and I was really blown away at how much this does look like real carbon fiber. I've worked with raw twill-weave carbon fiber before and as far as appearance this has just about all of the same properties. You'd be hard pressed to find a visual difference.
It's a good thing the 3M adhesive and fabric is so forgiving, I would've definitely screwed this up big time if I couldn't smooth things out and have a little time to work with it. Also - extra fabric to wrap around the edges is good, too much is not! Here's some crappy cell pics. I'll get some better ones tomorrow with my camera.

So is this an actual fabric with a cheaper composite fiber than carbon? Or is it just a print to look like carbon fiber weave?
If its an actually fiber weave, I am all over it.
