Anybody wrap the metra kit? I'm less than happy with the piano black finish. Plus if I wrapped my switch panels, it'd be the only thing that color

here is how it went. I'll probably redo some of the interior with Di-NOC. You really get what you pay for. The neffy wrap is aggravating enough to make a guidance counselor beat his wife. Not too bad for someone who doesn't know how to work on interiors but I'll clean it up. Oh and taking apart the head unit sucks.

Not sure why you had such issues with it. While in some instances you do get what you pay, that's not the case with everything and I had zero problems with the Neffy Wrap. In any area that has tight corners and requires some thinking and patience to get it to work it won't matter what wrap brand you use, it's going to be the same difficulty. With the adhesive used the wrap worked perfectly IMO and was soft enough like cloth to bend around any corner not to mention easy to smooth out the bubbles for a perfect finish. Di Noc's description is the same exact thing Neffy wrap is; a vinyl wrap with the texture of CF, it's not an imprint of CF on a decal.

Anyhow, good luck with the redo but it looks fine to me.

when I did the sides in silver it was pretty easy like you said vlaze and it still looks good so I'm going to leave that and the ring around the shifter. I partially blame everything else on my inexperience. On the other parts, your cut had better be good because the curves had me stressed. One problem that I ran into was doing the entire head unit. If you don't get everything tight like saran wrap then it's going to be issues with some buttons.
I noticed after a couple of days that the console around the shifter and the head unit was starting to come loose so I removed the neffy wrap and used goo gone to clean it back to normal.
I should be getting the di noc this week.
Also if you are going to do the head unit, you pretty much have to remove the radio and motherboard from the face plate. I was going to just tape over the buttons and cut around the buttons but cutting the wrap is like cutting a t-shirt so good look with that. After help from my wife of all people, it was pretty easy.
I'm contemplating doing a diy that will include the uninstall and wrapping process. Yanking everything out of the car is literally a 15 minute task

Did you use 3M 77 adhesive like I recommended and apply it to both surfaces (the application side of the wrap and the part you were applying it to)? You have to give it a minute to set in before actually applying the wrap and then after you're all done with a piece you want to let it set for a good few hours or rather, over night and reassemble the next day. This is why I mentioned it would take a good weekend just to do the parts I mentioned including the patience and timing to get things to look right.

This was also my 1st attempt as such with interior parts, as with anything you need patience to make things look right. Hurrying the job is just going to bring up problems and in many instances result in non-perfect result.

hahaha. Not only was it my inexperience that gave me trouble but my failure to follow instructions well. I just read it and said "looks easy enough." I did not apply it to both surfaces so that was my fault. One of the problems that I ran into though, besides that, was trying to cut off excess material once it was already wrapped. It seems like you have to make all of your cuts as perfect as possible especially around the corners before you wrap it. Like I said, the sides came out near perfect but when it came to wrapping more complex curves like the radio, it was giving me hell. Granted it was my first time so this weekend should be alot better. I'm also thinking of wrapping the ecu and fuse cover under the hood.
One last thing, if you are going to do the radio make sure not to rush and be patient. You really have to wrap it tight or your buttons will stick when you put everything back together.

I haven't bothered with the ECU dash nor the radio but I would tend to think the front side plates are more complex since they are joined together and when you look at my pics, you will see what I had to do in order to cut, fit and push the material into those tight bends with a sharp utensil...very complex.

I would not suggest this for under the hood btw, as vinyl it's not exactly high temp proof..but feel free to test if you wish.

just a thought, has anybody thought of doing the hard back of the front seats? that would be awesome considering mine are scuffed up.

This is great! I just took mine all apart prior to viewing this post. Great minds think alike! The carbon fiber is excellent. I am just going to do the sides and the shifter ring. I went with a thin suede material. I am (just in theory) thinking it will keep things quiet and take up any scratches (by accident) if they happen in the future! I have an interior guy who has the glue and the patience to make it all happen and will be installing it all back myself! Cheers thanks for the post!

I did mine, but I used the "stamped" CF with the adhesive already applied. The hope is that it will be easier to clean :D Pretty much same process, but if you aren't as experienced, u may find this a lot easier since you can cut it with scissors, and don't have to worry about fraying.

Sorry about the resolution, my phone gets it right sometimes, and sometimes not.

This is kinda a stupid question but how reversible is this if at all? If you take it off would the 3m adhesive be a PITA to remove? Also what made you guys choose this type of carbon fiber vinyl vs. dinoc or 3m's 1080 vinyl? Difference in price or is this easier to work with?

Mine since I used something other than what the thread starter used, is super easy to remove, and does not leave a residue.

I did both my metra kit and switch panels. Also did my gauge cluster. I like the look. Check my pic above to see if you agree.

It's easily reversible using the 3m 77 adhesive; the wrap is easy to pull off and follow up with electrical spray like your MAF cleaner on it that dries up quick and it will remove the residue and any left over stickiness. I removed mine from the shfiter ring since the first time it was applied it I didn't like the pattern approach I used. The finish on the piece is still retained with no scuffs or blemishes when cleaned up.

I used Neffy based on another DIY thread on another forum listed in my 1st post and wouldn't go with anything else as it's very forgiving allowing you to work the wrinkles to the edges unlike a vinyl sticker and remove and place back on the piece if needed. Not sure what some others are using here but there is a difference between carbon fiber looking vinyl with backing and stitched carbon fiber vinyl which is what this DIY is based on.

Just read the feedback on the pages and you'll see people are very satisfied with the material and only 1 person I saw had issues with it but believe it's because they hurried it instead of taking time to properly do the job. Dinoc from what I read and stated in another post is basically the same thing as Neffy, it's just another CF based vinyl wrap; either should do the job.

So...you're saying because you used something other than what I did in my DIY it's automatically easier to remove? I know what you were trying to say but the way you said it got me to chuckle.

While what you used may not have residue left over you still will have some stickiness regardless left on the piece that will need to be cleaned up.
