I just used this link; Rewiring the RX8 fog lights
The link has picture of the wiring diagram as well.

I still do not understand how this is not the right way? If you want true running lights (when ignition is on) then run it from your ignition switch, just like you would any other running light.
I don't understand how tapping one wire for power is different then tapping another wire for power? Most cars split that up anyways. Just like how a front and back turn signal or running lights all come off of one switch anyways, which all ultimately come from power from the battery.

Firstly, Fog lights are not running lights.
Secondly the proper re-wire only provides another power source to the relay, thus keeping the entire fog light wiring system the same. It still utilizes the fog light switch, relay, and fuses.
Taping the fog lights directly into the parking is adding extra current drain into that circuit so you will more than likely blow a fuse, then when you activate the fog light switch you are now introducing two separate circuits into each-other potentially causing un-isolated back feeding and could result in a fried PCM. But go ahead and try it if you don't see it as still being the wrong way.

You will also have to do a mod to your DRL (daytime running lights) module behind your glove box for this, it is very simple, i just dont remember details it was so long ago... the Canadian rewire thread is an easy read though and US cars dont require DRL's like Canadian vehicles do

Hi. As you can see from my posts (this is the second) I'm new to the forum. But has been for years looking at it as a guest. After 5 years with my 8, finally decided to do some mods, including this one. I did it today and it works perfectly using the white/red acc cable. But, I use only electrical tape (a lot) to insulate the connections and the cutted brown cable. Could it be a problem? Thanks

Same thing will happen to your electrical tape. So for now it's fine, a couple years later when your fog lights don't act normal, you'll know why.
Being under the fuse box I would shrink tube it if i were you. Don't want any exposed wires (once the tape goes bad) jumping around now do we?

You know that tape around the crush tubing that gets brittle and breaks off after time?

REW 8 with JDM stuff..
Had i known this mod was this easy I would have done it a while back. So if I do this (tap into the ACC for the fog lights) will I be able to have my fogs on with out the running lights on?
All i want on is the fog lights.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but i am new to this forum. I tried this tonight only to find the fog lights work the exact same (lights must be on to use fogs). I have an 09 rx8 and the only mods are megen lowering springs, bho ignition mod and goodridge ssbl. Anyone have a clue why it didn't work for me? See attached picture.
Edit: After many trials, and checking every relay and fuse, i switched methods and still no different than stock. See attached link. They now only work when ignition/accessory (dependent upon wire location) and headlights on where as before they worked in any position as long as headlights were on.

fog lights as daylight driving lights..remove relay in fuse box power lights through fuse box contact.
use relay connected to ignition fuses inside,, top three,,,, a relay connected to parking lights to turn off when headlights are on... How about a better idea,,, and should the bulbs be changed to led?

Fog light wiring
Years and years ago I had a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse gs Spyder with factory fog lights, I hit a dog early one morning destroying the drive side fog light and when I bought a new one for some reason It popped the main fuse under the hood, and being young and dumb instead of having it fixed the right way I just wired the fog lamps directly to the park light power source so when I flipped my park lights on the fogs came on too and I thought it looked pretty cool too, had I been smart I'd have wired in a toggle switch under the dash to kill them when I didn't want thme on, it made sneaking back into the driveway in the middle of the night very difficult!
