Well, looking at your "rice" puke listing in your SIG versus your actual "rice" CF boot/bonnet, you might be mistaken as such.

Then why did you think I was measuring the air when I stated pretty clearly what I was actually measuring was the surfaces?
Its a non-contact thermometer, BTW.

And you of three - CF hood, CF bonnet, black rims. I don't really care for your opinion, I just think it was funny that you got called out.
So, what are you going to put in that other exhaust outlet? A loaf of bread?
Nice OE appearance package, BTW. It compliments the CF stuff really nicely.

Of course! I'll be in Long Beach earlier in the week and then to Irvine on Thursday night.
I think I'll bring the dog, but I'm not sure.

This thread reminds me of an old saying...

"Arguing over the internet is like the Special Olympics...you may win, but in the end youre still just a retard."

I have no doubt in my mind that MM and Rotorrocks are correct, but untill we get a thermo-cam in action shot of the engine cowl and inside the engine bay Mac is gunna fight this one to the death. Just give up on him, hes not worth proving anything to obviously, and youre only debasing yourselves by reacting to his idiocy. You know youre right, and anyone with half sense knows youre right... who cares if some stubborn person wont bite the bullett and admitt theyre wrong?

"Those who mind dont matter, and those who matter dont mind."

I think there are people on this forum that forget it is entertainment.
Even serious car stuff - life or death car stuff - is still just entertainment.

Its just a hunk of steel, aluminum, glass, plastic and rubber. It doesn't really matter.
To discuss, in a serious fashion, such a trivial object in any depth with mere electronic representations of real people is just plain ludicrous.
I enjoy the banter and I particularly enjoy stupid Internet people (as I do real life stupid people), but I have no illusions that anything that happens here has any true value.

I did the same thing MM did and noticed slightly lower water temps, but my temps go down sooner than before. I say it works. Maybe I'll tape a piece of red yarn to my hood, and go for a drive, and see where it goes. If it follows the rise of the hood, then air is being pushed out of the opening. If it gets sucks down into the gap, then it obviously isn't working.

Thanks for the DYI and entertainment guys. I'll be removing my weather stripping and looking for some self adhesive bocks tomorrow. My poor car is frying in traffic and I've been wondering about fans and ducts and all. This is a MUCH better idea

It is more effective at speed. It will help a bit in stop and go, but a full-on fan mod is better to control temps in that scenario.

I removed the stripping but have not installed the blocks yet...maybe it's my imagination but I thought I actually saw an increase in temperature. We'll see with my trip to Tucson this weekend.

Like I said, it could be my imagination. I was still keeping steady with 180 degrees with the AC on...no complaints. I don't think the opening is enough to warrant any difference without the blocks to prop the hood up.

Has anyone noticed any stress on the rear of the hood? I know it's flexible being aluminum but I worry about beinding the rear of the hood.

Obviously, your ProSport water temp gauge is completely FUBAR.
My car will hit 180 at idle in the garage (with the GARAGE A/C on full!) after a few minutes of idling.
I'll hook you up to the CanScan so you can see the reality.
It was 108°F today. Your coolant temps are easily 215°F to 220°F with the A/C on. I'll buy you lunch if they are not.

Well, I'd be curious to know how accurate the gauge is. I haven't had much faith with it sitting on the heater hose and have thought about trying to relocate it to a more accurate source.

It seemed pretty accurate when running the flats...my dummy gauge began to move around the 220-230 mark and if these gauges are off 20 to 30 degrees I would have to have been running 260 that weekend.

Not calling you a liar, but I don't think at this point my gauges are as inaccurate as what Dave has been experiecing.

I certainly hope they are not seriously off otherwise I'll have to ditch them and get something better...I'd rather not spend anymore money in gauges at this point :-).

pro sport gauges are off approx x 15F. oil and coolant. I cant tell if the curve is consistent or not.
one thing i did to make them a little better was to make sure the grounds to the senders is different than the one to the gauges. And it is not the location of the senders--it is the senders themselves. Still--- a great looking gauge and a great price.

Yeah, I think when I get my turbo I'm dumping my ProSports. Anyone went 'em? I can hook you up with a good price.

I'm thinking of these Defi 52mm black series gauges:

Of course the three (boost, water temp, oil temp) and the controller will set me back $800

not useless if they look good---! If I ever swap out I will go back to mechanical.

I "modded" this idea a little this w/e.
Lots of options available---
1- one could actually cut a part of the raised part on the underside of the hood that lines up in between the windshield washers and have a pretty good vent. just mount a thin support bar where the hood was cut out. it would look completely stock on the outside.
2- instead of using foam or felt strips, i ended up using elevator bolts with thin rubber washers glued to the top of the broad heads of the bolt. I mounted the bolts in the cowl plastic retainer holes and by using a nut above the cowl and one below--makes it as adjustable as you want. Looks better, its stable and it spreads the raise a little. I have approx 1/4 inch vent space.
i did this and then i mounted an external thermometer to the engine bay--hung it over the front strut. ''''''Results is -----It works
