I'm curious about baking them also. Can you use a normal home oven or does it need to be some industrial oven? I wonder how they held up. I've heard powder coating rims is decent but i'm not sure how well spray paint would hold up.

you can use a home oven,

but i would suggest if you have any pets to leave them outside for a few days....

(smell and fumes)

and make sure you oven is big enough to fit 18" rims.

its pretty simple.

follow the instructions on this thread, or search powder coating rims on google or on here.

Update while leaving them outside my neice and nephew having the whole yard to ride ther bikes on decided to crash them in to the rims The paint did not hold up very well so i decided against mounting them. I did find a local place the will powdercoat for $35 and sandblast for $5 So since i have four extra rims i am sending one to get done at the shop. I will post pics of Rim if anyone wants to see.

Im thinking i didnt sand enough Thats why the paint did not hold that well anyone do this and there rims stay good.

160-200 is probably good if you're doing 2 light coats. 400 would be the highest I'd go (probably good if you're only doing 1 coat.) If you're trying to remove material you would want to start at a lower grit (40-80 depending on how much you're planning on removing) and work your way up.

What do people like using for sanders? I plan on taking my rims down to bare metal, and don't have an appropriate sander (but I've got air.) Are 2" air sanders the way to go? Die grinder with sanding pad? 3" pad on a drill?

all you have to do is take some steele wool, some degreaser, and some water and start skuffing up the rims, onces they are skuffed up enough, wash them off take some smooth sandpaper and wetsand it. once everything is ready, wash it off one more time, dry it.

take index cards or paper. put inbetween where you tire and your rim met. and start painting.

once you are done. painting one rim. go put it in the sun to dry and shizz.

its pretty simple. and the results are good if do it the proper way.

i havent had any "pealing" or anyting and mine are just fine.

use a good paint. something that can take heat.

2 coats of primer. 4 coats fo paint. and ima wait 24 hours and touch up some spots on the inside of the rim, and do the lip red. then ima clear coat 1 coat. so 24 hours after the clear coat i should be able to drive?
