I'm having a bit a of difficult time tracking down the proper crush washers for the trans/diff. Does anyone happen to have some links on them? I understand that the part numbers may have changed (was mentioned somewhere in this thread).
If anyone does, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! EDIT: Found this link, is it four of these which I am looking to get then? Just re-use them. Technically your suppose to replace them EVERY time. However most of the time they can be re-used. Heck even a good auto-part store or hardware store should carry something.

^No the Redline is Synthetic. It should have friction modifiers inside it already.

Just replaced my diffential oil from redline to mobil 1Locks up alot better now. Since the. Redline oil was 3 years old and two drift events and 10 sunday drifts plus daily driver o.O

Is mobil one better than royal purple or other brands from your experience ?.

Royal Purple in our transmission will kill our syncros quickly. Usually 3-5000 miles

Why does it kill the syncros fast?.interested.:) I may hold off depending on what you reply.

I don't know the chemical/scientific details, but it has to do with the additive package eating away at the syncro metal, or perhaps being too abrasive and the syncros eat themselves up.
Back in the 2006-2007 range there was a large shift toward Royal Purple, of people hailing it as a stellar fluid in the transmission, followed a few months after by complaints about syncro failure. It ended up being a pretty clear connection. A few of the guys knowledgeable about the chemicals/additives did some digging and found what the problem was with the fluid as it relates to our transmission. Periodically someone insists on using Royal Purple figuring that we don't know what we are talking about, and ends up with transmission failure a few months later, or disappears entirely, probably not wanting to admit they were wrong. I do not believe that this problem is also true of the rear diff, since there are different oil requirements there, but I do not know for sure either way. I have no knowledge of Mobile1 transmission/gear oils to provide any feedback there. I recommend Mazda OEM fluid or Redline MT90 for the transmission and 75w90 gear oil for the rear diff or Eneos fluids Others certainly may work, but these three are proven, and two of them are easily obtained. Given the chance of a "within spec" oil like Royal Purple that destroys the expensive parts, I'd think sticking with a proven oil is simply a smart call. |
thank you on that. This gives me some to chase down. I will dig into the syncro metal and additives for todays trans. Question though: Do you think it has different effects on a manuel or an auto trans or the same?.
I am going to change out he tranny fluid this week but I am playing it safe and will use the mazda recommended fluid for the auto trans. I will still chase your theory down and see what comes up. |
No manual transmission fluid will be safe in an automatic transmission, and vise-versa. Completely different operating environments and intended maintenance schedule.

ATF can be used in MT's..whoever said it can not is wrong, as I posted earlier Mazda recommended ATF for 'a' series 323 MT.

Isn't ATF generally thinner than MT fluid?
Agreed, that there are a few MTs out there for which ATF will work. |

Have a question: I was getting ready to drain my Diff fluid today and noticed a vet cap on the drivers side of the differential on top. Looks like a pressure release cap?. Is sit ?. or what is it?. does any one know here. Didn't see any thing on it from my search, I could have missed sme thing?.

Any one had any luck purchasing a small electric pump for differential and transmission fluid removal that you could share?. Looking for small pump for this. Where did you get it and how much cost?.

This^ worked fine for my Trans and Diff fluid change. You really don't need an electric pump both transmission and diff take 2~ quarts of fluid each. |
I used one like that for years, and it was always a pain because it wouldn't fit in a transmission fluid bottle, so you'd have to dump it in an empty Gatorade bottle or similar. When I did the fluids on my car yesterday, I got this for like $6 in store:
Multi-Use Transfer Pump Works awesome. Each pump sent in about 50ml of fluid, and I was done in no time. The only thing I didn't like was that the hoses aren't clear, but you could easily change them if so inclined. |

No, it isn't. GL-5 isn't just a "better" oil type than GL-4, it's very different.
GL-5 oil will destroy your transmission, GL-4 is what you want. GL-4 oil will destroy your rear diff, GL-5 is what you want. Oils that "meet or exceed" both typically don't work well. Use Mazda brand from the dealer, Redline MT-90 from Amazon, speed shops, race shops, vendors, etc... or use Eunos from BHR. Some other oils work, but those 3 are proven to be stellar. They are also easy to obtain. So why take risks with something else? |
thats why i posted before i dumped this stuff in there. I couldnt find any transmission oil at the shop over here that was only gl4. most of them said gl5 or gl5/gl4. nothing just simply gl4. But i'll return this stuff and go get some stuff from the mazda dealership i suppose. autozone/advance auto parts usually doesnt have that stuff?

Yeah, auto parts stores don't carry the gear oils we need. Easy enough to order it in cheaply though.
