[QUOTE]The one thing I like about this mounting place, it cannot be seen. Even if you're looking for it, you pass right over it because you think its the trunk key. I took some day pictures this morning, they look real good. I'll post them later.

I wonder if USB cameras would work if you had the carputer setup for them?
Yes and no. You can use a USB camera, matter of fact, that was my idea. The more I though about it the more I realized it wouldn't work. First of all, the image displayed from my camera is reversed, oherwise everything would be backwards and would likely cause more trouble then good. Second, the camera has to have a wide angle lens. Third, it has to be waterproof. Last, it would have to be a low light camera. Trying to find any of these things in a web camera will prove to be impossible. And after you found that perfet web cam that doesn't exist, you's still have to wait for the computer to boot up before you could use it. You'd also have to find a way to have the computer open the camera program when the car is put into reverse.

Here is the camera I bought:

much better in low light but much bigger...will not fit in keyhole location

the DIY I'm working on but will never finish :p jk

has installs for a 'damage-free' install...and install of the nightvision version...both with the difference in mounting location

Other than being Infared, it also has a narrower view (only 100 degrees) and is too big.

Sweet job!
Could we bore out the Mazda key frame assembly that the cylinder fits into and make it big enough to insert the camera? Thus, you would not need to grind down that round adapter to fit the hole. Looks like the camera is separate and fits into some cylindrical adapter. I would just be trying to fit the camera into a modified OEM trunk lock part.

The camera fits into a water proof house that comes with the camera. I guess you could drill out the key hole but, you might crack the plastic and loose the vacum seal inside the light housing. The camera cost a lot less than a new tail light, so I'd rather grind that down.

oh....now that I see you did it...yeah....mine was the same way essentially. It's a night vision camera in the key hole. As for the keyed entry...I kept keyed entry into the trunk, I just relocated the lock. I needed to retain a keyed entry since I don't have any locks or handles on my doors...so my only backup is my trunk! Good job though on the install!

Where did you relocate the trunk keyed entry to?
