When showing how to take the lights off there is a little black box under them. What is that?

That black box on my video under the headlight are the HID Ballasts. They power the bulb. The RX8 I had in the video was an 04 model and just came standard with halogens. I replied to your PM with more info on that wire you were talking about.

Great video. Thanks a lot for posting this. I recently noticed my left headlight flickering and soon enough it went dead. I wasn't too keen on taking it to Mazda to get it changed and now your video's given me some confidence to do it on my own.

Quick question: just as you were taking the bumper off you mentioned fog lights adding a couple extra steps to the process. Can you elaborate on that as I have fog lights and don't want to run into trouble there.

Thanks again!

sorry to bumper this old thread. Quick question. This afternoon i attempted removing the front bumper for the very first time. Pain in the *** !!!! But i was successful. Got the damn thing off and i could probably do it again.. with ease this time. However when putting the bumper back on. Everything went perfect. I bolted everything on etc etc. However i cant get the part right under the headlights in the outer corners to clip on. Im not talking about where the clear corners go but rather the part under the headlights (the outter corner).

How should i try to put it on tomorrow ?? Late night so i figured id bolt everythign on really quick and fix the gap tomorrow morning.

Thanks

It's retained by clips so as long as you lined it up properly, all you should have to do is give is some slight pressure just enough to click the bumper back onto the retainers that are under the headlights. Hope this helps.

Fixed it Reason why it was clipping on was because the part when it hooks on was slightly bent probably from me forcing it. Bent it back into shape and voila !!! It mind boggled me cause everything else was aligned but those 2 parts. thanks for the help guys !!

Just adding my thanks in here! This would have been a disaster without your excellent walkthrough video :O

I had to replace my headlight since the ballast module went bad. Freaking $800 for that headlight assembly

At least I didn't have to pay labor, thanks to your walkthrough

My front bumper had 2 white plastic doodads holding it on that would not come off without breaking them and served no purpose other than to be annoying. But my body shop might have put those on...
