I thought the AP vendor/reseller shops could provide a flash service to multiple cars. Customers that did not want to invest in the product, and only wanted the latest flash for their PCM or the ability of the shops to provide Street Tunning in their shop on a dyno.

Doesn't that mean that the unit needs to be able to "marry" multiple PCM's?

I worked with a couple of ex-CIA guys when I worked with the phone company (there was only one then). They were pretty closed mouthed. They did let loose some info on normal CIA operations that was pretty funny. Between the two of them you could learn a lot about eastern Europe and South America. They were pretty good guys.

I do not blame them for wanting this...they do after all need to make money...I'm cool with that...well except for the lapse time part...
They can "marry" the Cobb unit to my PCM, that's fine. And to unmarry it (umm.. divorce? ) you need to go back to the stock maps. I understand that and I'm fine with it.

But if you start talking about modifying the way the PCM interacts with external devices...

The AP is married to the PCM.
The ST comes in two levels - one that is single user and one that is multi user.
The idea is to make it impossible to download the map from the PCM so that a different tuner with the a multi-user license can't steal the maps.

Its not just to protect Cobb - its to protect the professional tuner.

No amount of digital protection of the PCM data will help if you can just record the analog outputs for injector duty cycle and ignition timing... Securing this data is just not gonna happen.

It's just like no amount of DRM on music files you buy online will prevent you from recording the output signal that goes out to your speakers... Unless of course the speakers themselves have digital protection of some sort. And that makes about as much sense as encrypting the signal sent to the fuel injectors...

Met Trey Cobb and Sean Covey last night at a large annual Subie meet at an In & Out burger joint. The local 7 & 8 Clubs were there in force (Dominion took pictures and I am sure will post them else where).

I now have a more comfortable feeling about an eventual release of a flash and flash tools. Trey is a really nice guy with a big rotary back ground who is committed to giving us a quality product. As Mazda Maniac has already posted, a n/a tune will be offered in the first quarter of next year with others to follow. Sean Covey is one of the software engineers who seemed very interested in my Pettit s/c, asked a lot of questions and answered none. Trey was very open and admitted he made some mistakes with the subie flashes and was determined not to repeat those mistakes.

Hey I actually showered today! Haa haa...

The auto's are simply more complicated due to the trans playing such a significant role in the PCM. Also, when COBB was looking for development vehicles they only requested the MT version which leads me to believe that they are not considering the AT at the present moment. This is an assumption however...

BTW...twinkies are indestructable to microwave radiation...they leak a bit due to creme melting...but they are impervious to death by radiation...

Well, after i thaw out later this winter, (Salt Lake is cold) we will see if that assumption is correct. You are correct in one aspect, the m/t will be first and as usual the a/t will suck hind tit.....but not forgotten. There is an outside chance that the a/t may be ready but do not hold your breath. Then again I told Trey that I had a big mouth (and nimble fingers) and would post anything he told me (unless asked otherwise) and he could just be fueling the fire. Mazda Maniac will be/may be going to Salt Lake after the winter to work on the tuner version with Trey.

I would not expect to see anything significant with simply a base map...tuning is the best method to extract the most gain...

What we will probably see will most likely be smoother response, and an all around increase thru the entire rpm range...I'm sure you will be able to feel the difference, but dont expect to get like +50 or anything...

Has someone kidnapped the real Eviltwinkie??? I would have expected his usual flippant answer not the slick one posted. Call the Texas Rangers.....be on the look out for a kidnapped stinky twinkie.

On Cobbs website the still have a couple of years RX-8's listed as vehicles needed, and it is noted they want MT & AT models. This doesn't mean anything towards the release of AT maps, software, hardware etc, just that they haven't completely forgotten about the AT's.

Guess they updated...the initial call was for MT's...I think they even purchased an MT for a little while too...although I might be getting them confused with another tuner...

From what I was told they did purchase one and were somewhat restrained when asked about it's present ownership. Said he had bunches of a/t volunteers but no FI a/t owners had come forward (until me).

Quote = MDW1000; ......... After all, we drive ATs so we are all fat and lazy Quote
I resemble that remark

Sure wish the multiple quote feature worked
