AccessPORT

I offered the same thing that 09Factor did during a fact to face conversation with Trey during Sema. My offer was to drive my s/c a/t to his shop and catch a flight back to Vegas so that he could have it for up to a month. Never have had that call. Maybe all they want is n/a a/ts.

Quit your hating Evil. I offered to send my 8 up there, turbo and all. What did I get for a response ??
Crickets man, crickets.
Justin @ COBB. I'll say this again. I have an Auto with a turbo.
Shoot me a Pm if you have any interest in supporting us Bastard AT owners.

Our goal is first getting the AccessPORTs shipping with safe and optimal mapping for as many year and transmission types as possible. Initially, that's looking like it'll be 2004-2005 6MTs so we can release sometime quickly after the beginning of the year. We'd love to add AT support and 2006-2007 support as well but without the cars, we can't do it. We really need the cars, not just PCM/ECUs. We've done all the testing on the bench we can do, now we just need to take what we consider a very close to final product and put it in production vehicles and make sure that when used exactly how an end-user will use it, it works as expected. This is final stage type of testing, but we need to do at least this phase in house before we start shipping beta units around the country.
Once we get that done and we all comfortable with how the AccessPORT is working, then the next phase is ramping up the custom tuning side of things which will of course be focused on the FI cars and one-off setups. That's when we'll need to get various FI setups here and begin developing the TUNER software to support them (if it can't already). We won't be focused necessarily on developing mapping to distribute but rather the software so other vendors can developing their own mapping and/or offer custom tuning at their own facility.
So yes, I'm excited to get some S/C or turbo RX-8s in here for tuning but right at this moment, for our first step, we need stock-ish cars to test what we're going to sell as a plug-in-play, ready to use device. THEN we'll start working on wrapping up the custom stuff, end-user tuning software, etc.
Again, ANY 2004-2008 RX-8s, ANY transmission type with no more than basic bolt ons and can bring their car to our facility in SLC, UT please let me know.
Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

Question - will the tuner software work on the ATs, even if this intitial release of the flash software won't? I'm more concerned about the tuner software for possible FI applications.

I would imagine that it would be in COBB's best interest for this to be the case. The more available they make their solution to the market, the larger the potential for growth. Ultimately providing they are merely providing the tools, and the more people who can use them, the more tools they sell.

Well maybe Justin @ Cobb can help with a copy of the last RX-8 dyno run that Christian and I did at MMP on August 10. Neither Christian or Billy have gotten back to me with it.
If that doesn't convince anyone on the Cobb AP for an RX-8, then nothing will (221+ rwhp naturally aspirated on a Mustang dyno)

0-60 mag cobb ad............looks to me like there showing crank hp............it starts at 232 peak.............ends at 8500+ with 249..............if its real then its about twice as good as racing beat flash but 3 times the cost

For testing, we need the car for at least an hour to do basic testing. If you can leave it with us for an entire day, then all the better. We've already performed a TON of testing on our own 2005 RX-8 6MT but testing as many different cars as possible before a release helps us get a better product out the door. It won't eliminate the need to do subtle tweaks to mapping for the used life of the device but we like to get as far up the curve as possible.
We'd love to post up custom tuned dyno results for some cars we've done but, at least in my eyes, that isn't an accurate representation of what we're offering currently. Just as we don't publish dyno results from our Time Attack STI on our website along side the AccessPORT for those cars. Sure, it represents what's possible with the technology but it's not an accurate representation of typical use and typical gain. The dyno published in our ad in 0-60 mag was from a stock 2005 RX-8 MT, before and after the AccessPORT.
Seems as though a reasonable amount of comment/concern is for FI, so I'll make sure we begin addressing that as soon as we can. Just realize first is releasing the AccessPORT hand held programmer for stock RX-8s and those with typical bolt on modifications (intakes, cat-pipes, cat-back exhaust). From there, we'll move on to getting the TUNER software available to other RX-8 tuners. Nearly all of them want it specifically for the ability to accurately tune FI vehicles, so we're well aware that is a priority.
Finally, making the software and/or AccessPORT available for any year or transmission type isn't a problem. It'll all be down to what cars we have access to. We're aware that we're in a semi-black hole for RX-8s here in Utah, so early next year we'll begin planning some trips to more RX-8 populated areas. That'll also give us an opportunity to hold some meet 'n greets, demo the products, and learn more firsthand what types of solutions people are looking for so we can work in directions that benefit the users the most. We'll post a schedule once it's been finalized.
Cheers,

Nice I can't wait Thanks Trey
I'd like to see dynos of a stock rx8 vs stock rx8 w/ flash and then testing individual mods on an rx8 w/flash.
It might help people determine what parts help with what part of the powerband with tuning.
