Honestly I'm placing my money on Hymee as well. I'm all about the little guy, having done some business as one in the past (though nothing like CRH or Hymee! , both of whom I intend to buy from!)

Yeah, Hymee is anything but little!
More importantly, he's committed and competent.
I have absolutely nothing against Cobb, but Hymee has a vested interest in the '8 just like many of us "little guys" do.

Perhaps "little guy" isn't the best term to use. I'm all about the people who care about the community, share their knowledge freely and relatively openly (though for obvious reasons sometimes it takes a while since they have to protect themselves from getting ripped off by the not-so-little-guys), work hard to develop products that benefit others, not just to make a dollar. BHR/ppO2/Hymee are all examples of this I think, they all saw a hole and tried to fill it, but they did so in a way that was community oriented as opposed to throwing a product at us and going "Hey, for $550 you can have XYZ with no understanding of how it works, why it's better or what it's gains are."

When I say "little guy" I'm thinking of comparisons against places like HKS, Greddy etc.

So what, are we talking burger king size definitions here? Large, medium and small

Oddly enough Jeff's build reminds me of my own... and I'm named Jeff as well.

But yeah, I think I get what he meant now.

If the AccessPORT were vaporware, why would we even be discussing it? We'd just let the threads die and go off our merry way. There's certainly no lack of things to do here so it's not exactly like we're scouting out for the next hornet's nest to poke (aka Internet discussion forums). The logic baffles me...

We're doing our initial "production ready AccessPORT" testing through tuners in our network (along with the TUNER software) so we can verify quickly that the calibrations are performing as expected in the final, PRODUCTION READY form. We thought doing it through these shops/tuners first was prudent and in YOUR best interest to get a product launched quickly because they HAVE a dyno right there and a RX-8 so they can do the testing very quickly, rather than sending it to someone who says "Oh wow, this is a neat tool and I can feel a difference but I won't get to a dyno for 2...maybe 3 weeks, but geewiz this certainly is neat". Also, while everything has functioned superbly here, it is always a potential that it bricks an ECU. That happening at a shop is a heck of a lot easier for everyone to manage than it happening out in Home Depot's parking lot at 2am in the morning. Or in the case of eviltwinkie, the "gentleman's club" parking lot. j/k

Once the shops sign off on it, which should be this week, we'll start the next phase which is getting it into the hands of a FEW individuals. We'll allow them to post their impressions and, once posts of conspiracy theories and claims that we paid people to SAY they had it, that the pictures of it on the moon were actually taken on a secret base in remote Arizona, etc, we'll release it publicly.

And finally nothing against anyone else or business but in our defense, I've been in and around the rotary world for quite some time. Do some quick google searches on my name and you'll pull stuff up from the old RX-7 email lists (before forums) or even some stuff back when a few of us set up TeamFC3S. I was actually one of the founders of that "club" and site, and wrote a good deal of the original technical articles. I don't have NEARLY as much time as I once did to sit on forums and so on but I can assure you our decision to release an AccessPORT for the RX-8 was NOT driven by a desire to "cash in" on an eager market. Don't assume that simply because my business has been successful that I'm any less of a rotary enthusiast. We're not Microsoft or Oracle or some other faceless big business, though we are a business and we want to stay IN business. Know also that at our core, we're a group of car enthusiast trying to make a living doing what we love. It's a shame we're looked at differently just because we've had some success in doing what we do.

Does any of that make our product better than anyone else's, big or small? No, not automatically. Big companies that aren't "enthusiastic" about a market can still make the best product for that market if the skills and resources are simply superior and they execute better than everyone else. At the same time, a single enthusiast CAN make a better product than a bigger company (enthusiastic or not) if they execute better and meet the customer's needs. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much aware of branding and so on but in today's market more than ever, it's the product that matters. That's what we're focused on doing here. Sorry it's taken us so long but we haven't been interested in rushing a product to market in order to make a quick buck and then leave, we've been interested in getting something that WE'D want to use on our own RX-8 and that's taken us a little longer than we originally thought. For that, I sincerely apologize but I assure you there IS a reason why we didn't just drop it and cut our losses.

Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

Yes...of course you would...that's how it works...but thats not what I was insinuating quite frankly...

I was saying that it was simply another delay tactic and to not get everyone's panties in a wad...

It's simply annoying...that's all...

One jaded opinion...

Oh you see I'M referring to the "beta test" that sounded like you were getting "interested users"...as in "not tuners" to test it...

Perhaps thats not what you intended...but thats surely how it was interpreted...so perhaps its the fault of how context is lost on a forum...OR bad grammar...doesn't matter tho does it...

Heh...you'd be surprised how a little club money really motivates some desperate college students trying to earn their way thru college into replacing your transmission at 3am...

But then again...on a serious note...something tells me since you singled me out here...I must have kicked you in the nuts...which I totally get off too...

Mirror Hi-Five!!

Now since you've poked at me...you have my...special attention...heh

I agree. Some people mouthed off baseless allegations and are unwilling to admit to being wrong. Ignore them.

Here's an extremely reputable company working to bring a *quality* product, taking the necessary time not to rush out something half baked. And then communicating with us up front about it. This deserves only utmost respect. If we only had more vendors like this!

And that's true, which is a great thing for our community! Though compared to many larger companies making parts for our cars, they are nowhere near as open as the smaller enthusiast vendors on this site.

Anyways, my main point is that COBB is not jerking anyone around, so we shouldn't create a hostile environment for them.

I think all the paid vendors on this site are all reputable...

I do not think a single vendor here is or has been anything BUT reputable...
