i use to have my cz tuned to stay around a 12.8-13.0 afr which kept my egt's under control and also let me use 89 octane year round but still gave a pretty decent power gain... is a map for something like that possible?

More importantly, you will gain torque in areas of the map where there is too much fuel in the OE calibration.
If it isn't enough, I'll get you a better tune.
A lot of what makes or breaks a tune will be the intake. Stock intakes will almost universally make more power out of the box.

A tune that would not destroy my high flow cat would also be appreciated by myself...
slightly off topic, but this is the evidence that really had prohibited me from replacing the OEM intake... posted by Cobb on the Mazdaspeed3 section during their intake testing for that car
The dashed lines are traces from the RX-8 (left picture) and a 2004 STi with Stage2 AccessPORT programming (right picture) and the solid lines are from the MAZDASPEED 3. Notice how the dashed, green line from the N/A vehicle (RX-8 graph on the left) is flatter; demonstrating the stock intake system on the RX-8 is able to provide more than enough airflow for its motor. The solid green line is descending or tapering downward demonstrating that more resistance is being created as RPM increase.
Simply put, they measured the pressure in the intake box. If the box is a large restriction and can't flow enough air, the pressure will decrease as more air is being sucked out then sucked in (pulling a very slight vaccum). For our OEM intake, there is no fall off until way way out in the rpm band (off of this graph) and even then its supposedly minimal.

I am not trying to disrespect any intake manufacturers, I just want people to understand that an intake system is absolutely not necessary for the RX-8.

Christian, can you please explain the various tuning software packages, the costs associated, and the differences between each? Some people want a tune that works straight out of the box, but some enjoy to tinker with things or have a tuner that is not a member of your network. Thanks!
