Question about Stand Alone ECU
Ok so i am doing a swap in my rx8. I am putting an 13b s4 NA into my rx8. i was told i could use the rx8 front engine cover onto the rx7 engine so that way i could use the rx8 engine harness and ecu but i am not able to because it doesn't work so i have to use the rx7 front engine cover so that means i have to use the rx7 engine harness.
well my question is with the rx8 having the electronic steering i have to buy another ecu. I know of the ADAPTRONIC S1 MAZDA RX8 PLUG N PLAY ECU that is $1,439. But i am limited on funds. Is there any other ECU's i would be able to use on the swap without paying that much for an ecu?

Team - the VVT Hysteresis RPM setting does not seem to have any affect on the SSV. Here's an example of what I am talking about. In this video I set the SSV Low RPM to 1500 and held the throttle at 1500 RPM. Notice switched Inlet 1 on/off rapidly switching from 0% to 100%.

I can see your point about the hysteresis function, but it seems to me that the load setting between worst case cruise and when you really need the SSV to open should be further apart than what you describe in your testing above, but since I’m not there I just have to take your word on it.
The PFM cars were NA. I wasn’t expecting you to set your SSV at the same point, but was describing their strategy.

The stock Rx8 harness can be use on a Rx7 Engine with a cas... You simply just need to run a shielded 2 pair wire for the 24 tooth side of the wheel. If you purchase an ECU or one of my ECU + tuning packages I will be happy to answer all of your questions on the swap as I have done multiple of these.

No I just choose to not take on what you asked because I could not execute it in an effective way to properly handle your request. At the time I was in the middle of moving locations and the car was about 3 hours away from me.

your ecu FS ad is getting bumped and inquired about, so you might want to let people know the status rather than snubbing any other potential customers too.

FWIW, I bought my ECU from Shawn for the swap 6-ish months ago and am still getting support email responses same or next day from him. I don't know the entire context of your guys' history but if I'm going to talk about my own experience, I have to say I'm very happy with the customer service I've received.

Well don’t misunderstand me, I have no complaint and had no intention of going there, but since he did, what I said there is valid feedback. It doesn’t mean I have anything against working with him. I think he’s probably one of the better sources for tuning an RX8 and likely many other applications too. I get to hear the same from some of the customers on my job too from time to time. I’d rather they tell me than not. Hopefully he does too.

Now that I've had the Adaptronic running for a little bit I can safely say I have no issues with ABS, DSC, or power steering. Haven't set up AC or Cruise yet, I'll update when I get those working. I'm noticing about a ~0.5 AFR (AEM is reading richer) difference compared to my AEM UEGO in dash AFR gauge; but the O2 sensor is approx 12" further downstream than the Adaptronic and is now 10 years old (reused from my boosted Renny). Probably worth my time to get a new O2 sensor for the AEM, it's just not a priority at this moment. Still working with Shawn to get my basemap/cruise set up properly so I can continue to put my break-in miles on the new engine, waiting on some new spark plugs to arrive tomorrow since my original ones are already completely fouled
Then I can put some good miles on this weekend.

Good to hear it is working well! I have been running a V1 ECU for few months now and I am pretty happy with it.
Regarding the AFR difference I also experience this. My dash gauge reads about 0.5 AFR richer than what is reported in Eugene at idle and the gap seems to close to about 0.3 difference at cruise. This is using an Innovate LC-2 wideband hooked up via serial to the ECU. My sensors are only a few inches apart in the exhaust and I even swapped their positions but the difference remained. I also tried a new sensor for the dash gauge but didn't change. I am interested to hear if a new sensor makes a difference for you. When I tried the Adaptronic wideband module last year the difference was much greater, about 1.0-1.5 AFR richer on the dash gauge. As a reference point my dash gauge reads pretty close to dead on with the factory ECU.

All I can say is I'm glad my Adaptronic is the leaner reading of the two, at least eliminates the "what if I'm running too lean" thoughts as the car is tuned based on the Adaptronic obviously. Didn't go as far as connecting AEM to the ECU via serial cable.
Edit: should also add that my idle is wildly unstable at the moment (should be smoothed out tonight). So AFR's are jumping +- 1 AFR as my RPMS jump around +- 300 (seeing this on both gauges). So it's not a really fair comparison yet. They are smoother at cruise though, where I'm still seeing that 0.3 - 0.5 difference.

it’s map based tuning, the only reason to have a maf is for the air temp sensor, I bought a high resolution 1.2 Bar map sensor for NA use
