Glad I purchased the Adaptronic ecu with the lambda module and WB O2 sensor.
I have a 2005 sport model that I track using E85.
Running with the original BHR kit and had one coil die recently.
After I replaced the one coil and checked the plugs after a track session I discovered that the one plug had a much better color.
Leading me to determine that the remaining D585 coils were also weak.
Sorry about the photo size.
The decent D858 coils are getting hard to find.
I ordered the last one from Rock Auto.
Hope it turns out to be legit.
so I heard through the grapeline that when the last set of Modular ecu’s that recently arrived (or are inbound still?) are sold, that’s going to the end of them, forever … and there supposedly aren’t that many available.
Going to be a big cost change for the known alternatives. I had a Haltech Elite ecu quoted with jumper harness to mate with the OE engine harness and it’s about $3000 more than the Adaptronic Modular ecu to get the same functionality.
.
Too bad these were so short lived; I like mine so far. Would have thought Haltech bought them to have their CAN compatibility.... hopefully that's still in the works. Glad I have mine already.
no more internal O2 modules available and none coming, but you just have to use an external O2 setup instead
kind of doubt Haltech will offer anything specific for the RX8 going forward, the jumper harness I mentioned would be custom made through Tuned By Shawn

Good to know another resource at least.
It’s a wonder to me about that since the Rx8 is such a popular candidate for engine swaps. I guess most using LS use a Holly or the likes.
so I had been told by someone there were only going to be 15 more available, but according to the Turbosource website that was updated recently they have 45 inbound from AUS.
Just received this from Adaptronic after a request for service.
" Dear Adaptronic Customers,
Adaptronic has been a part of the Performance Automotive aftermarket for 15 years and in that time we have been involved in some amazing builds, set world records, and brought first-rate electronics to the marketplace.
It is with great sadness that after almost 4 years of successful operation under Haltech ownership, we have decided to wrap up official business operations of the Adaptronic brand as of 15.05.2022, this decision has been made in part due to the global electronic component shortage and in part due to the ongoing technology transfer between Adaptronic and Haltech brands. For both Adaptronic and Haltech, Performance and Racing is our passion, it's part of who we are - it is our DNA. This next evolution in our journey will further strengthen and embolden that passion.
"Since coming to Haltech in 2018, many of Adaptronic’s technologies have made their way into new and existing Haltech products, greatly improving the communications speed, usability, automatic updates, and many other internal things users don’t see. I’m really glad to have integrated Adaptronic DNA into Haltech DNA. We have pushed forward with products having aspects of the best of both brands, especially the Nexus R5 and the PD16, the benefits of which have also been made available to Elite users. Haltech’s IP has also made its way into Adaptronic products, in the form of internal wideband controllers, and support for Haltech accessories like widebands and EGT sensors. Ultimately I don’t have an ego in this; I don’t mind which brand name is on the product sticker, I just care that I’m making awesome products to help fellow car enthusiasts.
I want to thank the Adaptronic customers, many of whom have now embraced the Haltech brand after seeing the best parts of Adaptronic integrated into Haltech’s products. I also want to thank the Adaptronic team for their help with Adaptronic, but also for what they’ve been able to do at Haltech for our new products. And of course, a huge thank you to Mark Bevan and the Haltech Management team for the opportunity to work together and to do great things. This move may look like the end of an era, but I prefer to see it as the start of a new one. I am looking forward to leveraging the resources and opportunities that exist within the Haltech structure" -Andy Wyatt, Founder of Adaptronic.
All Adaptronic staff have already been integrated into the Haltech family, with product support and warranty still being available to existing Adaptronic customers for a period of 12 months. For warranty and support please email tech@adaptronic.com.au and the team will be there to service your requirements.
To every customer who purchased Adaptronic products, supported our business, and with whom we became personal friends, we say "thank you". It has been an incredible ride and can we encourage you to continue to support Andy, Mark, Tsikoy, Larry, Frank, and all of the Adaptronic team by supporting us in this next chapter as we move into bigger and better roles within Haltech"
Any other Adaptronic owners out there that needs service out of warranty?
Not sure what my options are at this stage.
I have reached out to my Tuner (Tuned by Shawn).
Hope there is a fix.
Swaps are just going to become a little more expensive and intensive. I mean the electrification of all cars really is our death knell anyways, albeit a slow one hopefully.
But we will be an ever present niche.
The Haltech's already work with the 8; you just need an adapter harness for the 8 which someone like Tune by Shawn already can do. Yes it is less convenient than a direct plug and play option and likely some added cost, but not super unreasonable either.

Very true. If you can afford everything else then this isn’t a deal breaker. It’s just sad to lose a good resource like Adaptronic.

Correct. I sold my adaptronic and am switching to a Haltech Elite. I am deciding to ditch a majority of the OEM engine harness and wire in my own for most of the engine bay. Haltech did mention that a majority of functions should still work when you connect it to the CAN of the rx8, but they didn't elaborate on what all will still work. I guess I will be finding that out myself. They did specify things like the Dash, TC, ABS, check engine light, oil pressure output light, power steering and speed sensors. Its not a true plug and play solution but will be neat to see what all is compatible. I assume the jumpers you're talking about mostly just connect the CAN system, and things that don't run through CAN (DBW, ignition, crank sensor, oil/coolant/fuel sensors, fuel pump, Wideband, etc).
IMO it isn't that bad, and Haltech's support thus far and their information on their website is incredible.
I really don't know much more about it other than I have a friend looking to go the Haltech route for his swap as well and Shawn was able to provide the ECU and a "patch harness" to go along with it, if he decides to go that way. Sorry I can't elaborate more, that's ultimately the extent of what I know haha.
If you are going to go standing you might as well do a proper harness.
The cars are getting old enough that reusing the stock harness isn't worth it. Plus the added connections reusing the stock wiring harness and a patch harness just add to that. Must of us have broken injector and coil plugs and the throttle body and MAF plugs tend to crap out as well
I have a few low use engine harnesses on the shelf as well
the Elite 2500 Haltech with RX8 patch harness fully functional is roughly 3x more out the gate. So one car is a bit of a bend over and take one for team, but three cars …

The good new is Andy did merge into Haltech with the deal so there should still be a big amount of wealth for rotary applications, as well as rotary innovation for now.

the sad truth is rx8's have been out of pruduction for 10 years now and so a lot of aftermarket parts are no longer avalable
I very much doult Haltech would put any money into a true plug and play ecu for us, a quick view of thear site shows they do not have the strong rotory history that adaptrones or microtech had
The only thing that makes it plug & play is the wiring adapter harness. You can either have someone else make one, or buy an existing one and adapt it, or make your own from scratch. The Adaptronic just eliminated the adapter harness by instead adapting directly to what exists.
Alternatively a breakout box, it’s a Nippon Denso style 122 pin connector. The issue in general though is that this all used to be readily available, but now the supply chain dried up as the world spirals downward to it’s final conclusion post wuhoo flu plague.

Just heard from Adaptronic they agreed with my diagnosis.
Tech said" apparently outputs INJ7 and INJ8 got damaged"
Adaptronic picked up the cost of the repair even though I was out of the warranty period.
I think that speaks volumes about the company.
Feeling good about getting the 8 track ready.
