CANZOOMER WORKS? Prove it - Give me a dyno.

I actually spoke to Canzoomer recently, he said he doesn't post anymore due to the time wasted trying to answer tons of emails from guys like cretinx who demanded information that had already been discussed. He told me that he decided his time was better spent working with his business than trying to convince people to buy this product on this forum. I have been researching this product over the past week and am ready to purchase it and tune it myself, thanks to info provided by several board members. When speaking with Canzoomer on phone, he told me the same thing I had read on this board, this mod will run different on different cars and the maps are conservative to prevent problems (pinging) in most/all cars. If you are willing to tune the CZ, he said you will get more power but will potentially sacrifice some of the life of your CAT. He didn't try to hide any CONS i had already read about here and seemed committed to continued improvement/research of the CZ.

^^ Ditto to the above. Maurice is very helpful, and is willing to talk to you at length on the phone. He also told me that everytime he says anything new he gets hundreds of e-mails and PM's from those who question his work. (Usually in the manner of the cretinX....oops :D)
Can you blame the guy? He has spme great projects in the works........I just hope he hurries up with some of them...cause I'm looking for options
PS: never met the guy in person...no affiliation except a love of the car!

Double ditto. Canzoomer gave me above and beyound service and was very upfront on the abilities of the unit. I've had mine since last march(it has been upgraded) stage 2 map since December----no probs. ANYONE that has been in the car can tell when it is on and when it is off. Hell even the exhaust sounds differant to me and the tips dont carbon up as fast.
Lets face it guys--more hourses aren't cheap and easy on this car. But then again that is what makes us special!

My conclusion after searching and the reluctance of Canzoomer to provide maps of before / after with only Canzoomer as a mod - its half the price of a GReddy turbo - its not worth it.

Step 1 : Cat back Exhaust &/or Air Intake
Step 2 : Pullies &/or Hi-Flow Cat
Step 3 : Canzoomer ECU (w/w-out tuning)
If you are asking for somebody to give you one without the other stuff it is probably oretty unrealistic as they already have this stuff on their car before they put the Canzoomer unit on there. It is due to ease of installation & understanding (easier just to strap a cat back exhaust on rather than install a piggyback unit & tune).
In the example that was provided Blown8 had an initial run with air intake, hi-flow cat, cat back exhaust & ECU (turned on). In the second run he has the air intake, hi-flow cat, cat back exhaust & ECU (turned off). Net gain was 16 whp & 5 lb.-ft. of tq. In both cases the only change was the CZ unit on vs. off. Not sure how much more scientific you want it. It's not like he pulled everything off for his second run, the only thing he did was turn off his piggyback system. In the 2nd example Prober gained 20 whp, tuned it further & got 22 whp.
Finally, the Canzoomer unit does not cost 1/2 the Greddy Turbo, it is closer to 1/3-1/4 ($800). Not to mention the installation costs for the turbo are easily 3X more expensive than installation & tuning of the CZ unit. Not to mention all the peripherals (guages, guage pods, BOV's, etc). If they can get the CZ unit used on the FS board it makes even more sense.
Before you claim that I am bias I don't have a CZ unit I have a turbo on my car. If I had to do it all again I would have probably installed the CZ unit & called it a day. The added tq of the turbo is great, but people need to understand that the $2900-$3000 they spend on the turbo is just the very beginning of what they are going to spend. I have seen enough posts by good people on this board that got good results from the Canzoomer product to see that if somebody is looking for moderate gains they are better off with a CZ unit vs. pullies and/air intakes.

^ Where did you get that? From cretinx? Here's the rundown for my experience:
- CZ unit off of group buy $500
- Clone E-manage USB cable $50
- Canscan $150
- Misc extension cables $30 (optional)
One of the reasons why I do not buy any other performance upgrades for my 8 is because most of them cost too much and get nothing at all. Vaporware for the most part. They are probably good preparation for future boosting, but for running N/A none of those conventional upgrades give more power than the E-manage/Canzoomer tuning. Our 8's run up to 10:1 in AFR at the high revs, how ridiculously power-robbing is that? Tune it to 13s or 14s if you're brave :D

Yes, the Canzoomer is a repackaged eManage. The eManage circuit board is placed into a generic aluminum box and is pre-wired with the proper connectors.

As far as support goes, I think if you ask around you will find that I am generally pretty responsive to emails and phone calls.
Three reasons I got quiet:
1) I got tired of the fact that every time iposted I would get around 300 emails and PM's and if i did not reply to them all and quickly people felt i was ignoring them.
2) I have a life apart from my car. I have been really busy with work, a reno to my house, and lots of other things. On top of that I have been methodically working on and improving on a supercharger kit for the RX-8, and I really do not need too much distraction.
3) I set out to accomplish a specific goal:
To produce a device that is easy to install and use. It is true that the car varies wildly. About half get exactly what I advertised. About a quarter get more, and about a quarter get less. The unit can be tuned to specific cars, and the average person sees additional gains. This has gained a life of it's own and I see a real community centred around this.
Anyway, said my piece.

Thanks CZ for the post -- it certainly has been a long while.
If you don't mind, please give us an update on the Supercharger project when time allows.

RX8 and a Truk....
Part of the problem is how unwilling people are to learn to read dyno graphs.
My first dyno on my old car went like this:
240hp/250lbs-ft.
I swapped to a testpipe from a cat, and dyno'd again:
242hp/256lbs-ft.
That test pipe gave me 25hp and 25lbs-ft of torque, nevermind what the 'peak' numbers were...
Do a google search for 'power under the curve' perhaps?
cretinx? Nobody owes you ****. If you don't like the product, and/or are ignorant with respect on it's use, Fine. No skin of anyone's nose.

This is the best place to find out about the involvement of installation: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-engine-tuning-forum-63/stage-1-install-instructions-pictures-18394/
It doesn't appear to be painful. Mine is on the way, but I don't expect to have much trouble following this tutorial.

We also add an ignition control board. Without that theGreddy only allows you to adjust air/fuel ratio, not ignition advance.
Also, ours is plug & play, and does not require warranty-voiding cutting of wires.
Lastly we provide:
1) on-off switch - useful for when you get stuck with a tank of regular/bad gas
2) support
3) tools to work with to tune it.
Sure, one can buy a turbo, and get as much as 50% more power than with our unit alone.
Do the math:
CZ Stage1 or 2: $600
Tuning tools ( CZ-PROG 1 cable & software, CANSCAN RX8 USB): $285
$885 for 30HP - $30 per HP
Greddy Turbo kit: $4,000 + install - around $5,000
$5,000 for 40-50HP - $90+ per HP
No warranty
Noise
No way to turn it off
No tuning tools or capability
Please understand, I think the Greddy Turbo kit sounds like a decent product.
But it does not strike me as a "daily driver" mod, and I doubt it can pass emissions testing.
And removal is NOT a trivial process.

the tuning must be done on a laptop...i am confident i can do the installation of the unit. however, i would like to be able to get the max gains possible. i am a computer geek, but that doesnt necessarily mean i will be able to tune it. what is involved in the tuning w/ the lap top? trial and error?
