Ok, I was able to log some files with my CANscan. How do turn it into an excel spread sheet. How do I make some sense of it? According to the real time AFR my car seems to run 14.81 until 6k where it goes to 12.05. Will CZ help me?

for example : 8979,30,78.8,.776,67.1,67.807 from 1run2nd.log.txt
1. u should use excel to separeted the "," into col.
2. look for the 4 data.. 0.776 (this is A/F)
3. to convert it to 14.7 ~=1
4. 0.776 * 14.7 ~= 11.4
for example : 4134,15,78.8,.937,31.7,61.949
4. 0.937 * 14.7 ~= 13.77
(check out the first few pages for the excel file sample)
Note: the Old canscan is not accurate. I am not sure the unit from cz (old) accurate or not. but I just got mine this thuesday)

1) Go to the sheet that says LOGS.
2) Select Drop Down Menu Item DATA
3) Import External Data
4) Import Data
5) Locate your LOG file and proceed to step 2
6) Change to comma separated and uncheck tab separated
7) Select Next, Finished, and OK.
8) Select the cells for WOT for RPM, ADVANCE, THROTTLE, O2S1
9) Paste them into the sheet named DATA. (clear any existing numbers if present)
10) If your O2S1 data is in Lambda, run the Macro AFR
11) Click the graph tab and see your results
I'll post an edited XLS on my website that you can download. Here is your first log file graphed.
Yes, a CZ will help all NA cars.

I just bought a blue e-manage with the stage 2 CZ
have 2 questions
from previous owner the e-manage was already tuned for a NA engine (mine is NA as well) so, do I still have to tune it for my engine or just do plug and play??
also,if I want to tune it what would I need ?
what is better,or user friendly?
a laptop or a canscan ??
BTW, I paid $330 for it. I think I got a good deal. What do you think?
did I ??
thanks in advance
PS: I'll probably get it on friday ( I hope)

under no cirumstances should you run a blue as "plug and play"... the LTFT of your car could be significantly different from that of the previous owner's, and affect the tune

Ditto on un-sticky-ing this thread, please.
Basically, canzoomer (ie. e-manage blue) is not particularly useful for the RX-8, because the ECU is smart and over-rides most changes you make. It is possible to temporarily tune above certain RPM's in open-loop mode, but that's about it, and they will disappear over time.
Still, If you want to learn about tuning basics, you can do what I did and buy a used one for like a hundred bucks and play around with it. You can learn a lot by reading some threads on here and playing around with your own car. That said, if you want any significant power gains whatsoever, the best advice as of mid-2008 is to go buy an interceptor-X or Access port. That advice stands for both NA or FI.

Why unsticky something that is still very useful? There are still plenty of owners that are looking for an inexpensive alternative to the AP. It's not like this section has an over abundance of stickies.

It was a lot of work, and Mazda kept coming out with more and more frequent ECU flashes. Plus, they did not keep the Canadian ones in sync with US, ands I am in Canada.
The ECU flashes ( PCM calibrations is actually the proper term) DID improve performance somewhat on the stock 8 as well.
Lastly, as was pointed out here, to get the most out of it you DO need to install a good O2 sensor, and use a device like a CANSCAN or similar to read accurate rpm and engine data.
Then you need to have some patience, understanding, and the will to do tuning.
Pretty time consuming.
Overall though, it came down to spending too much of my life on a car, and not enough on other more important things.
