How to: Connect your Access tuner RACE software for live tuning and DASHBOARD.
So someone ask'd. and i said i would get back with them when i got it working...
First. the PHYSICAL connection....
You need to connect your laptop's usb, to the USB cable that goes to the AP dongle. YOU SKIP THE ACCESSPORT. LAPTOP>cable>dongle>car.
YOU MUST be using the latest version of firmware.. when you connect the USB, it should install it automatically as long as you have all your accessport drivers on the pc.
Then, you hit ecu live-tuning, and it will attempt to connect. mine connected instantly and the green light came on at the bottom.
I first tried this using 2 usb cables and the accessport... it doesn't work like that, its much simpler.
Shortly thereafter my battery low light came on, so i didn't get to play around with live tracing...
NOTE: Live tuning does work on our PCM, as said below.. V ..
More information can be found in the accesstunerRACE PDF.

Nice, but this doesn't apply at all to an Version 2B Accessport though, My OBD-II cable has a serial type connector, not usb. The OBD-II cable on mine has to plug into the AP. I have started from scratch twice with software and drivers and followed the atr faq pdf.

^ It's not a serial connector. But I am glad I have the older style. I found out the new style won't work for datalogging on the laptop because I was working on Hoss-05's car and he has the newer AP.

Go try this...
Connect computer to AccessPORT via supplied USB to USB Mini Type-B cable, then AccessPORT to OBD-II via supplied OBD-II to 9-pin, black cable. All communications will pass from the computer to the vehicle through the AccessPORT.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Thanks bro. Hoss-05 and I have a netbook just for the cars, it's much easier than downloading the logs.

If you have the newer version of the AccessPORT without a discreet dongle, pass-through is the only way to do it and it does definitely work in both PRO and ATR.
Where people run into problems is when they are trying to load a locked calibration for logging.

That is the way i use it, ap says connected when i click connect to ecu but i get a cant find ecu, tried from main menu and in monitoring mode on the ap with no luck. And no, my tune is not locked. and my map is loaded in atr when i try as well

Well I am clicking on the equivalent of those shortcuts so there must be something wrong with the drivers. I have tried downloading all the drivers off the cobb site, i have tried just what atr installs and I also tried atr plus the dongle driver from the site. I used ap manager 2.0 in all 3 attempts. Am I missing an ap 2b specific driver or something?

Just a update, thinking it was windows on mac screwing it up, i tried it on a windows 7 tablet i got a few days ago, exact same problem. installed atr, manager, updater and then dongle driver, downloaded the map off the ap. opened atr, loaded map. connect to ecu, instant error can't connect to ecu, and the ap says connected to pc when it errors. Any hints would be helpful. Thanks. 2006 GT with a AP 2b

The updater is now part of the APManager, so if you did a separate install, you are either using the wrong versions of the software or you wrote over the correct driver with the outdated updater software.

When you connect to the computer or car it takes several minutes for the software to connect and communicate. If you attempt to use it prior to this process completing you will get those errors. The ignition key has to be in the full on position as well during this process. Also the dongles are not the best on these and sometimes you have to play around twisting or manipulating it such that all the pins connect. There is a thread on the forum where a member thickened all the dongle pins using solder to solve this problem.

The problem is often in the DLC. When I started to get connection errors, I took a good look at the DLC and the pins had all spread.
I just pinched them down a bit with a jeweler's screwdriver and now it is always perfect.

I've supported over a hundred Cobb clients with RACETuner with only a handful that had connection issues and it was always either software/driver conflicts or dongle connection issues, both of which I've already explained away.
So, you are a bit of Mrs. Slocombe if you believe yourself to be in a majority.
