Found out this week that Mazdaedit is incapable of accessing a Pettit flashed computer as the security code is changed (locked). Trying to find a solution but probably going to have it flashed back to stock.

did we ever learn of S2 applicability? I recall Brettus having a dealer willing to let him try.

Jeff (MM) used to go on about how Pettit (or more accurately EFIDude) "borrowed" a bunch of the Cobb data to make their map. Is what you're seeing the "tuner" lock code?

The way I understand it there is some sort of security code challenge that must be passed for the software to read/write maps. In simple terms, basically a password. This is supposed to be the same on all Mazda ECU's however it has been changed on the Pettit ECU so no one else can read it I guess. MazdaEdit can still read all the sensors, just cant read/write the map.

The software shows it supports S2's and I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'll ask the shops I work with to let me know when there is an S2 there and I'll test it. So far every car I've tested it on, it works fine but I haven't tested any S2's.

Ah, you're referring to the whole OEM checksum thing. I didn't realize pettit went to such length to rewrite the factory code.

I might be a little behind... But there'd be a number of happy S2 owners out there if someone could demonstrate command of its tables.

Yeah - that was something I was going to do - unfortunately I got inundated with sorting out my business and have not done it . Only just got back to trying to get my own 8 back on the road yesterday.

Some Good news . Most of the issues i had with the logging side of Mazdaedit have now been fixed . Can now log AFR along with pretty much every parameter the OBD ouputs .

I'm interested in anything new or exciting relative to USDM market. I'm not interested in seeing the same old stuff posted, re-copied from print, and all your other past posting tactics on this forum. Just the same your opinion here is as welcome as mine so you can deal with mine, just as I deal with yours

That said, I can see why non-USDM owners are interested. I can see why the S2 owners may be interested if it proves out. However, as of yet I haven't seen anything new, interesting, or otherwise development beyond what is already provided by the Cobb AP.

There isn't one .

a LOT less likely to happen than with Protuner though - which is good from my point of view.

*You can tune any number of mazdas (not just 8's) with 1 only Mazdaedit licence. Can the Cobb do that ?
*I'm actually getting 'some' support from the program developer . Does Cobb do that ?
*Logging functions way more sophisticated than the Cobb (now that AFR can be logged) . Can also log catalyst temp - which will be handy.
*Map editing functions superior to the Cobb
*Ability to edit ALL maps
*S2s
*JDMs

Getting to be a good list

Hopefully it will work out...the Cobb is so far the only thing that has been funtional without too many problems

Protuner was an expensive paperweight...and it didn't even work well for that. And after 2 bricked PCM's it became too much of a risk to even play with

Going with a big boy standalone for my REW swap in the new year....will let you know how that works. It will run the DBW throttle...just not sure about some of the other stuff I want it to do

)
After my initial 2 bricked PCMs I learned how not to do it ....... I managed over 260 flashes without doing it again . Just sayin

After the original fault/error was figured out it didn't do it after...but I never could trust it..and I would never have used it on someone elses car due to that risk

It would be nice to be able to see and edit all of the maps in the ROM...but mostly the Cobb allows the important ones to be played with.....( even though some don't seem to do quite what they say they do )

Plus the current development thing is great too....nice to have someone to talk to when things aren't working.....CObb doesn't do that any more

Yes, I can tune any USDM RX8. (and so can anyone else) If I want to lock the program I need the ProTuner license. I do get some support from Cobb as well. Like yourself now I was a beta back in the day. I have other hardware for scanning and logging, but hadn't really seen you post much up on that yet.

only if they also have a Cobb . I can tune any car that rolls up - no extra licence required.

Mainly because up till yesterday I couldn't log AFRs which was a pretty hopeless situation . Now that that is sorted the logging software is better than anything else i've tried/seen.

Ok, but there are limitations to that tuning response like they will always have to be present to your location to have anything done. With the Cobb a USDM vehicle can be tuned anywhere and receive the tune by email. The Cobb allows them to load the new tune at their location, not mine. The Cobb allows other owner features such as switching programs, saving & reloading the original factory program, their own logging of certain data, in the case of an unlocked program their own tuning and features changes, saving/switching those programs, etc. I suspect the personal version of ME will provide most of the same thing. I doubt it will do it in the small hand held device like the AP, more likely a laptop. The size difference dictates the convenience and features capability of each. Also, ME is not new. They announced RX8 capability back in 2009. It was an expensive option then and still is. It will be interesting to see if they can finally expand past the same map access as the Cobb AP.

Further my reply that you were originally addressing was to Wirdy Bird here in the USDM market. Half the things you listed I had already addressed so to quote a noted forum personality, "somebody must not have been paying attention".

At least one of these two platforms has a future for sII owners

First my apologies if this is a stupid question, but I am not too electronically savvy, at least when it comes to programming things.

But would it be possible with this to make the oil pressure gauge in the OEM cluster show actual readings? Or is this controlled in the cluster itself and the PCM has absolutely nothing to do with it?
