My Fellow Cobb AccessPort Owners - Are You In For a Donation to MazdaManiac
To Whom Have Purchased a Cobb AP from MazdaManiac [Jeff];
As you well know, Jeff has been busy helping people tune their AP by creating custom maps for them in his free time. He has been working very diligently and doing the best he can to keep up with the overwhelming response of RX-8 owners who wanted the AP and now want to get their car tuned up perfectly.
I realize that we paid for the product and we paid for the service, but I feel we may not have paid enough - we paid what the Cobb AP sells for standalone, yet we get something invaluable: Jeff's expertise and help. 5 customizations over 6 months PER AP OWNER, as you can imagine this has create a huge load on Jeff.
I am in no way affiliated with Jeff, nor have I even met him in person. However, I would like to start a donation for Jeff. If he wants to put a PayPal donation button on his website, or if a moderator or someone wants to start something along those lines, I will be the first to chip in.
Imagine this, instead of drinking your starbucks coffee for 1 day out of the week for the next 4 weeks, you would save $20. If we can get 50 people to donate $20 (just $1,000 total), I'm sure Jeff will see that we all truly appreciate and value his work and efforts here.
If you want to make a donation, just post your name/forum name here.
I will personally match up to the first $100, and another $100 for every $1,000 that gets donated to Jeff.
If nobody is interested, I guess all I can say is that says a lot about the members here.

simply, I applaud your idea and effort.
There are however a few issues with this idea.
1) I'm not sure if Jeff will even let us send him $$$, let alone through PayPal. (after what they did to him with the Korean Scammer)
2) I fear that people will donate money to Jeff and deep down they'll see that as paying for a service and thus will demand more / faster service. I am sure someone will eventually say, "I bought the AP and I even sent you an extra $20 bucks and I STILL cant' get maps fast enough" (or some stupid comment along those lines)
I have met Jeff in person and I find him to be a great guy. To be honest, I don't know how he finds time in the day to tie his shoes, let alone everything else he does. I try to just buy him drinks whenever I see him.
With all that said, I'm in for a $20 donation and I will always think of it that way. Not as a service I'm buying.

I want him to know the community is behind him and supports his efforts and I don't want him to give up or suffer financial hardship because he's trying to do the right thing FOR US.

2) Good point, I want to make sure everyone understands that we're not doing this so that he'll go faster or anything else. Everyone should understand this is a donation to show your appreciation and should be looked at exactly how Jedi explained - as just a donation and you should not be expecting anything in return. The whole point of the donation is to thank Jeff for his work and let him know that we are glad he's doing what he's doing.

I'm in for $20 mainly because he has his heart in the right place and has been taking an unintended financial hit (scammers and negative margins etc) to do the right thing for the community.
I want him to know the community is behind him and supports his efforts and I don't want him to give up or suffer financial hardship because he's trying to do the right thing FOR US.

Do what you can, if you can help him out then all the more power to you. If you can't, I don't see why a donation wouldn't be appreciated. I'm not in a position to put my free time to work doing maps and tunes, but since I do want to say Thank You I started this and hope people will back me

Get a few bucks - have a volunterr who lives by Jeff go to EFI University in Temecula ($450); and then shadow him for a bit to see if he can help out.
OR - get a web nerd to set up a Database and format to get the info in and out standardized. My software would do it - but so far haven't had any luck with people to work with me to set it up. I'll have it once I get my own AP.

It's about showing the appreciation, man you guys are tough to explain something simple to. If you think he needs help then go help him, but I can't and would rather show my gratitude to him for his work by a donation - understand? Why do I keep having to repeat that...
