My results with the 1.1 upgrade

Good: doesn't seem to fry the ignition coils. Ran a full day at Laguna Seca with it turned on without any heat issues.

Bad: Turning the unit on results in loss of power across the entire RPM range. With a CanScan attached I did some 2nd gear runs from 2500-8000 RPM. With the CZ unit on I was 1.9 seconds slower than with the unit off. Both acceleration slopes were constant so it wasn't a case of losing power only after 4200 RPM.

Sorta Ugly: Talked with Maurice and it seems like his basic position is this affects maybe 10% of the cars out there and your best recourse is to start tweaking the unit yourself. That may be acceptable for the people willing to fork out an extra $200 and time/patience to fiddle with maps themselves. But it isn't the plug-and-play solution I initially thought I was getting.

One thing to keep in mind is it's the squeaky wheel that makes any noise. Most people tend not to say anything if it's working as expected.

guys,
in cz's defense, the unit works well on my car from day one. Absoulutely no probs. no burnt coils, no rough idle. a VERY slight hesitation at about 7k. I have always watch the temp under the hood and I still say that engine and engine bay temperature is worst on this car than others. I do not let the fan run after the car is turned off. Do a little search and you'll find that engine bay temp affects the coils. Sorry you are having trouble with your unit/car. Omi did also. Keep the faith. Welcome to the world of "tuner cars".

I just installed my CZ1.1 I don’t think I have any burnt coils. I took it for a couple of test drives and it seems like there may be some power loss across the RPM range as stated above and the idle is now running rough but I am going to do some more runs this weekend and give it a chance to learn. Kewl is going to lend me his CanScan tomorrow; I guess I will need to buy the programming kit and start adjusting.

Who from the Mountain Region had any luck with re-tuning the stage 1 for “High Altitude”? And are you happy with the results?

Skeptical at this point and not what I originally expected. And took so long to get

I only have power loss under 5000 rpm, big kick in the **** after that power. Idle is rough, from the email received from CZ and slavearm's efforts, it sounds like CZ adjusted timing even at idle, which may explain why we have idling problems. Why would someone want to do that?

I've read more people having problems with their unit than those that are satisfied....and those that are "satisfied" are only going by their butt dyno, which is sorta lame. I really think that the 10% number is higher. Just take a look in the "RX8 parts for sale" section to see how many people are getting rid of theirs because they are "going a different direction with their mods..."

I had mine updated with pur nrg's same result. I agree it seems like its more than 10%. Well to say the least at least the unit is tunable. I'm planning on taking mine to vishnu and get it tuned on a dyno and see how it goes.

I bought the unit from Polak, and I can defintely feel a difference on the top end, but like others out there it seems like my car has no power at all at certain rpms, and it starts hesitating like crazy. I'm going to try to learn how to tune it today, or just shut it off until I get it tuned. Btw, Vishnu is able to tune the unit. They even said that if I lend them my car they can come up with their own custom piggy back program using their Xede unit. The reason why they don't want to do this yet is because they don't want to just release it without doing some extensive testing, and they don't want to advertise here in the forums because once people hear what they are capable of doing, they will be bothered with phone calls asking for e.t.a.'s, and a lot of bad mouthing if they dont' meet a certain deadline. From reading all the negatives posts on this forum toward tuner shops that need a little extra time to design something with reliable gains, I understood why they would rather not be bothered by it right now. But back on to the previous topic, I am definitely in that 10% where the unit does not work right. Hopefully I'll get it straighted out shortly.

Are there any decent shops you could go to instead that will not charge you so much?

Just curious guys but all people that are disappointed with the units do have the M flash don't they. If you don't it does make a differance.
