Hi CZ tuners!

I can see some progress here with the CZ tuning. I see nicely set AFR-s and good looking igniton maps, but has anyone measured the HP gain with this tuned maps?

I'm interested, because now I have a working setup, everything is looking fine but the G-tech shows 0-gain. We did several comparison runs but no gain showed. The car is 220hp with and without the CZ unit.
Car runs fine by the way, still has good low end torque and the idles just fine.
At least the CZ #1.1 does no harm

We did yet another test.
Installed the same unit with Stage 2 program in a different car. The car was driven on a closed track by professional driver (~2 min laps, differences within 0.1 sec, 6000 - 9000 rpm only).
0.0 sec gain

Futher evidence tht work needs to be done. I just participated in a track day at road atlanta with 8 other 8's. I was the only one with the cz 1.1 I have the m flash. It seemed I could pull other 8's just a little. More in the mid range areas than at the higher rpms. Course there where a lot of variables. Just my 2 cents worth. I wish I knew enough about tuning to tackle that job. Hey you guys post some results ok!

I would bet that the stronger mid range you felt is due to the m flash! I have it too and feel the same...

I got beaten several times by and S2000, and was ashamed that my supposed 250hp ish car couldn't keep up.
Now I feel better because I know the guy had more hp, less weight better tyres and suspension so the mere two seconds between us around the track doesn't scare me any more.

It's hard to get results especially now that winters is rolling around. Dynos are just too expensive especially when compared to what I can get with $100. Dyno runs are basically useless unless you want bragging rights. I not interested in that at all.

Can you wait 6 months and I'll get back to you? :D

Maybe ask the west coast guys, they are in the sun all season.

When I was off tuning mine a couple weekends ago I was doing g-tech comparo's after every tweak (while logging to continue tuning) and form the rather uneven start to the much smoother end tune I saw an increase over the standard map of about 15HP in certain spots. I didnt do any runs without the unit to see what my baseline was, but I'll be doing that this coming weekend since I plan on taking the car in for service and am gonna pull the cz out while there.

When Alex drove my car without me fine-tuning it yet he seemed to notice the extra pwoer over his, so I'm optimistic of getting a solid number.

Thanks Genom!

So there is light at the end of the tunnel...
I think in the mentime I 'll invest in a lightweight flywheel and a shortened final drive (4.44 -> 5.2)

How are you shortening the final drive? Smaller wheels?

this is my very safe map I've been working on - about a 13.2 a/f ratio and 4 degrees of ignition advance.

The graph (using my own program and CANscan data) shows a 12hp gain at peak power and a max gain near redline of 20 hp.

Very nice... a respectable result pr0ber! Are you going to share the maps in the appropriate thread?

I will indeed when everything is completed - i'm still working on part throttle a/f and timing.

Right now the maps are completely blanked out below 5500 rpm and mostly blanked out below 70% throttle. My original intention was to keep things stock like this in areas where I'm at in everyday driving so the computer learning can't undo anything - and then when I get on it the computer won't know what just hit it. It seems to be working so far as the original map had lots of timing changes the computer seemed to be tweaking out (even had a pending CEL), but with this strategy it seems to be steady.

i made some improvements... going for more "area under the curve".

The map is a bit more aggressive then the old one with bumping the advance to 6 degrees, but I think its still pretty safe with a/f ratios generally around the 12.9 - 13.0 range. Some more details will be put in the appropriate thread

Hi Guys
I wanted to update all of you on my experience with my CZ unit.
I bought mine back in April, and I had the L-flash at the time, and it ran great out of the box for 2.5 months. In late June I sent it back for upgrades and I updated to the M Flash. When I got the unit back, I instsalled it and ended up with burnt coils within hours. I sent back the unit again to get updated with the coil pack fix, and I got new coils from Mazda. When the unit came back I installed and tried for few days, and the car ran great above 5K RPM, but bogged down below. I tuned the unit off till last week, and I decided to wait. After reading about the fix (removing the two caps) I finally did that this weekend. Amazing the car came alive at all RPM's. I initally tried the map that was on the unit which was dated 5/19/04 and the car was doing great. I also tried CZ map for stage 1 dated 9/13, but adjusted the volatge to go grom 3.0-4.05V, and the car ran great, more power. I then tried the stage II map dated 9/13, but adjusted the voltage as above, and the car ran great again with more power at +7000 RPM. I then tried Pr0ber Map that he posted recently. The car ran great, but the power felt different, it was more abrupt, but more power. This was an awsome weekend, it appears that my car can run the various maps with no pinging at all. It also appears each map gave the car a slightly different feel. None are bad, but certainly different. Now I have to decide which one I like best. I used earlier my friend cansan, but unfortunatly I was not able to use this time to trace these maps. I guess I need to buy one and start working on my own custom map. I am encourged that stage 1 is working fine after the cap fix, and also my car seem to run fine with the various maps used.

I will keep you updated with my R&D

Mark

Sounds great, but I had the same feeling and no measurable results!

Truth is, the bad ignition signal bogged the car down so much, that I got used to it, and after finally corrected the ignition _everything_ felt just wonderful. But the G Tech and track times resulted 0 gain!

I don't want to be an @ss_hole but please crosscheck your results other than butt dynoed!

BTW. had the opportunity to log some data through the WDS tester. Got 0.75 for signal @#$@$_111 @8500 at WOT, which translates to 11 a/f. So now I know the car really runs rich up high. Had no time to check with CZ on though.

Hey guys.. On Canzoomer's website it says that the CANScan tool comes with the tuning data software. Does this mean CZ - Prog 1 or CZ - Prog 2? Or do you still need to purchase CZ - Prog 1 to get the USB cable to make your updates....

So which products do you recommend for someone looking to Update their Canzoomer and track their data points as they modify the maps?

Would it be CANScan and CZ - Prog 1?

Thankx!
