Omi, was the tuning hard to do? Never had experience with ECU tuning, and right now I am debating whether to purchase the cables and attempt it. Did you have the OBD II to read the output?

I have the OBDII-CanScan unit, but didn't need it to tune it - just the CZProg-2 cable and software. I started with Maurice's recommendations, then kept tweaking till I got it right. Pretty easy to do once you understand the basics of how to change things, and that's not hard to get. I'll be using the CanScan unit to do some more fine tuning when I have the time.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I will be contributing another $100 so dollars to the U.S. trade deficit.

We have calibrated the stock O2 sensor using the Lambdaboy sensor Maurice has. Came up with a formula to correct it, so the OBDII system can be used to tune. You don't really need it, as Omicron stated, because you can just keep leaning it out until you bump up on the ping prevention system and then back off a little.

I suspect Maurice will advise how to correct the readings (I think they're putting it in the OBDII system's program).

As for the trade matter, I think the OBDII system is actually made in the US. Its' improvement is a collaborative effort.

RX-Friend how does one tune with the OBD II, I thought that was just something to read sensor outputs? I'm a total noob when it comes to ECU tuning, but the OBD II can't alter parameters like Fuel/Air maps right?

Don't sweat the trade stuff, I was just kidding. I contribute a lot more than $100 to the U.S. trade deficit, both in my personal and business lives. :D

One of the first things you can theoretically do with the OBDII-CanScan is log your Air/Fuel ratios throughout the rev range in each gear. Then using this data, look to see where it's running lean, and adjust the CanZoomer unit to increase the A/F ratio and make it run somewhat richer at those points.

Exactly. The thing we found was the stock O2 sensor (current type not voltage) was in error according to the Lambdaboy (watching what it reported on the OBDII canbuss). Turned out the reason was (we thiink) Mazda used the wrong calibration curves. So we came up with a correction formula.

After setting the lowest Ignition setting to 0, it fixed almost all the problems associated with the CZ unit. This holds true with others who are tuning it as well. Read up on the current fix/tuning threads we have for this unit.
