"Triple" is such a vague concept. If the stock config has a 0.01% chance of severe detonation then is 0.03% really that significant? Yet it's a different story if the numbers were 5% and 15% respectively.

My concern is that I don't want to blow up my brand new car.
My question to Maurice: Is it possible that the Stage 1 is tuned too aggressively?
Real simple and easy to understand yes?

The answer is generally no.. but depending on what else you do to your car and where you are located then it's a possibility.
If you do not want to blow up your new car then you should probably not perform any modifications. Even an intake has the possibility of destroying your engine.
Either get it, or don't. There's more than enough information on this board regarding CZ's product.

Unless you know the real numbers (and I don't think you do) being anything more than vague won't add precision to something we don't know.

You will not "blow up your car" by installing the Stage 1 unit. It isn't tuned aggressively. It is more aggressive than stock, but that difference had more to do with meeting EPA II than anything else.
Also, the RX-8 has such a good detonation prevention system that I don't think you -could- damage the engine, even if you filled the fuel tank with 70 octane fuel. I think it would be undrivable, but I don't think it would damage anything.

I don't work with/for him at all. I was answering as a consumer who has done research and has purchased his product. Just trying to be helpful ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I still would have rather heard it from Maurice himself...

OK, I managed to get my hands on a car that had the problem, finally.
It seems that there is a variance in the MAF sensors for some cars, and we had puched a couple of points in the tune close enough to the line to make the odd pings/knock. This triggered the ECU antiknock routine, which cuts advance a pile. Thismakes the car lose a lot of power instantly, and run very rough.
The RX-8 has a pretty decent knock handling system, and it pretty well instanty cuts power. So far we have seen/heard of four cars that managed to trigger this.
It does not do it on most, BTW.
Anyway, we have adjusted the map to remove just a bit of timing advance at those 2 points, and this clears it up.
I am also getting the "M" flash tomorrow, and will be testing it and logging/tuning this weekend.
With Mazda releasing so many flashes so close together it is making a bitch of a lot of work for us.

Maurice worked with me on my car and has been very helpful. The first map did not work well with my car, and the second map is not quite jiving? I hope to work with him in the near term to get it right, but it makes it difficult if some cars are tuned a little different.
Has anyone else noticed a slight pause in the 4-5k range? and a little sputter in the 7-8k range?
I just noticed it today, but not sure if it is a one off thing. I hope to talk to Maurice soon, and figure out a solution.
My only concern is the car, but hopefully I won't do any damage?
Any thoughts?
