tryed to reflash stock map from cobb now my car won't start

I tryed to reflash my car with the stock map from the cobb and the load bar appeared but stood at 0% for 15min then a error code pop up. I then try to start the car and now my car don't turn over.. I don't know what to do, It does not even read my ecu it says error. I even unplug and re plug the cobb and nothing. I evan turn the key on off the on again and nothing same results error. I check the odb plug and the prongs seems good. I emailed cobb and waiting on a reply . Anyone have some insight on this situation?

I've heard that this can happen but I've never actually seen it before. My fear is that you might need to go to a dealership to reflash the ECU. I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you that you need a new ECU. I'm no expert though so hopefully one chimes in.

This thread is informative but you might not have the hardware required.

I've had cobb lock up, but I've just reflashed it. I was going to say that but you said you can't. Call cobb.

Is your Security / Immobilizer light fast blinking? It is possible that it wiped the ECU and is now stuck in a boot loader mode of sorts.

In MazdaEdit this is fairly easy to recover from, assuming that's the state it is in.

Damn man yeah one of my fears is bricking the ECU when reflashing maps. I dont move an inch when the Cobb is flashing lol I dont open doors or anything. Hopefully they take care of you at Cobb man and its back and running.

Lots of interest here in Cobb's 'de-bricking' service - please get back to us and let us know how they treated you, any problems or praise.....

Thanks.

Ok so I got a emailed back from cobb and it don't look like they can fix my ecu.. they going to give it another try with more team members from cobb. If worst case scenario I'm assuming I have to buy a new ecu and key module? Or can I buy a used ecu plug it in and I'm good to go?

So unfortunately cobb can't fix my ecu so I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking buying a use ecu and key module and see if mazda can reprogram everything.

So Cobb is doing nothing to help you unbrick your ECU?

Sounds like dealer time. I imagine a knowledgeable tech can reflash it for you. Will likely cost you around $200.

I can bench flash the ECU to match ur car, but I can't match the Keyless module with the ECU, cuz the immobilizer in the ECU stores the info(the serial on the RKE really), and I have no access to that, the ECU has to be installed and I have to match it in person.

this is why all flash services like RB flash cannot do a 1 n 1 swap, you HAVE to send the ECU over, why? because the RKE Serial number is stored in ur ecu.

so your only option left right now is dealer. and I HOPE they know how to do it, it's easy to do when u have access to the car, but monkey probably dunno how to do As-Built flash

And unless ur ecu is fried, or bootloader is corrupted, there is no way they cant bench flash it, just couple of pins and 12v can do it.

I have been telling ppl locally to at least have a backup ecu on hand, i seen 1 cases of complete ecu failure(its a 2003), and the cost of tow truck, diagnostic, brand new ecu(dealer) and time(took them 3 days to find out) cost way more than a used ecu and flash services from me.

Oh if cobb really cant fix ur ecu, when u try to source a used ecu online like ebay, MAKE SURE its not jdm ecu, most early jdm rx8 does not have immobilizer, even it looks exactly the same and has same kind of plug, it will not work. So make sure its a usdm ecu out from a usdm rx8

In the past, I tried to do the maintenance on my car. However, I always ended up doing more damage than good. That’s why I pick up the phone now and take my car to the mechanic.
