Good fix Cohdey I'll have to mention that for those that don't have a fear of fixing things themselves here in Minnesota.

I have had water in my light for a while. Finally got around to taking it by the dealership. They did not replace the lamp, but did replace the gasket. Parts manager said that Mazda decided that replacing the lamp was too expensive. He did tell me that if it gets water in it again, he will replace the whole lamp.

Took it immediately to the dealership, they one look at it and ordered me a new taillight under warranty. Hopefully it will be here by the weekend!
You lucky then...I have the same problem...pfff but the dealer won't change it...i had to let it just this way..it all started when i've changed my rear bumper into a EX.dimensions carbon.

I'd call BS on that answer. I went to my dealer with 1" of water in one tail light and the service manager wouldn't even come 20' out the door to look at it. No - he said "What Mazda is it?" "RX-8" I replied. He said "Don't need to look at it, Mazda made them wrong, now they've got a new version that doesn't do that". Immediately started to make an appointment for replacement, said they always keep them in stock, they replace them all the time.

BTW I don't believe the gasket does squat as far as water leakage.

All I can go by is what he told me. When he first looked at it, he said, "No problem. I have it in stock and can swap it out under warranty. It will only take about 30 minutes to replace it." A few minutes later, he came back and said, "The new TSB states that we have to change the gasket first. If it continues to leak, then I can replace the lamp on the second visit."

Since it has been bumped.

We have had numerous rain storms lately and my tail light is perfectly dry inside. The gasket worked.
