Better to strip wax before attaching trunk lip spoiler with 3M tape?

Bought a trunk lip spoiler that attaches by 3M tape. Should I strip off wax by washing with dishwashing detergent before attaching the spoiler?

If I ever need to take spoiler off, does it matter whether the paint was waxed before I put it on?

Thanks

Either way is fine as long as it's clean and sealed on all the edges.

Always best to first remove the wax. Kinda common sense.

I'm with cjkim. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean paint where the tape will go. Even Mazda directions for installing the front splash guards recommends cleaning with alcohol before applying the adhesive tape.

The area without the wax will be fine. It'll be covered from UV, acid rain, bird $#!T, etc. It'll be in better shape than the rest of your car if you ever decide to remove the lip.

I started a thread about it earlier. I ended up buying the aftermarket one. One vendor seems to have multiple listings with different seller names. It was inexpensive - so we'll see. I'll snap some pics when I get it.

So you got the $149 one? I remember finding ones that were going for like $50?

One of our local guys has the authentic Mazda rear lip he got imported from Japanparts.. he paid over $400.. I'd be curious to see the fitment on your car so I could compare to his.. on first glance the shape is a bit different as well...

I got one of the ones that were going for like $40 plus $26 shipping. From contacting and investigating the sellers that were selling the same looking item from the same place, I figured it was the same company with different names on eBay. Messages I sent to the sellers were all answered by the same person.

That said, we'll see if - I get what I paid for....

I'll make sure to take pics. Hopefully it's nice enuff to put on.

3M has a cleaner that they use before the tape....body shops use it if they want stuff to stick

I think Isopropyl works well though....

eBay feedback comments mention fast delivery. I'm hoping some time this week.

Okay, got the spoiler. My friend liked it. Good deal for what I paid. Looks like the eBay listing pics. It is not the most flawless paint job, but good for the deal.

The pain in the butt is that it will need to be formed to the trunk edge contour. I think I'm going to have to use blue tape to mark exactly where it will need to line up.

Will take some pics.

Might take me awhile to get the spoiler on the car. Here is what it should look like on the 8. From the pics I have seen and me roughly placing it on my car, there will be gaps on the side. I'd say about 1/2" on each side.

God, that would look pretty sweet though if the fitment is perfect. Could you also let us know how much you paid for labor and paint?

Yes, it does come prepainted. The buyer provides paint code to the seller.

I will try to get in in at least a paint tape/temp fashion this weekend. Or at least pics of it.
