blacked out corner on a black 8

i dont know if people have post pictures of these before... but i blacked out my amber corners and made them black by spray painting them glossy black because one of my clear corners cracked because some bozo hit me in the parking lot. so here they are!

i know it doesnt match perfectly but ::shrugs:: some of my friends say they look better then the clear corners and I'm impartial. it was a quick easy little project :p

I'm pretty sure it's against the law not to have a side facing turn marker.

As long as the bulb shines amber you won't get a ticket.

uh, why a ticket?

Those are not turn signals, no need for ticket

They dont blink when the turn signals do, they are just there for no reason

They are there for a reason. It's the law. Just like all the other lights on a street legal vehicle. Cars in the US have been required to have side marker lights since 1969.

Wow cool, besides looking like a cheap patch job they will help you get T-boned at night. Can't think of a cooler mod!

there are many cars that don't even have side markers, and plus cars have headlights for a reason. I'm not worrying about getting t-boned... and it was a cheap 5 dollars (plus tax) mod. better then replacing my one clear corner for 70 dollars + shipping

Your not worried about getting T-boned, but you told us
some "bozo knocked your blinker out". That's crazy.

Don't dig this mod. Blue parkers almost got me a ticket.
And you know how small our parkers are.

Gotta love Google!

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 regulates the lamps, reflectors and associated equipment for cars, trucks, trailers, buses, multi-purpose passenger vehicles and motorcycles. It became effective on January 1, 1968, for vehicles wider than 80 inches (large trucks and buses) and on January 1, 1969, for the other vehicles.

Standard No. 108 - Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, Buses, Trailers, (except pole trailers and trailer converter dollies), and Motorcycles (Effective 1-1-68 for vehicles 2,032 mrn (80 or more inches) in width and Effective 1-1-69 for all other vehicles)
This standard specifies requirements for original and replacement lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Its purpose is to reduce traffic crashes and deaths and injuries resulting from traffic crashes, by providing adequate illumination of the roadway, and by enhancing the conspicuity of motor vehicles on the public roads so that their presence is perceived and their signals understood, both in daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility
.

Side marker lamps were installed in cars, trucks, buses, trailers and multipurpose passenger vehicles in response to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. The purpose of side marker lamps is to enable a driver to see another vehicle that is approaching at an angle at night--and to see it early enough that the driver can stop in time to prevent a collision or, at least, slow down to reduce the severity of the collision.

Side marker lamps have significantly reduced the number of nighttime angle collisions that occur in the United States.

The lamps have significantly reduced the number of nonfatal injuries that occur in nighttime angle collisions, because they reduce the severity of accidents and/or prevent them entirely.

They may be required to be MANUFACTURED with them, but that's not to say that you can't modify them/remove them. It depends on where you live. I can get away with a lot compared to most of you. The Alaska Administrative Code isn't as restrictive as Cali and others.

13 AAC 04.037. Turn Lights

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a vehicle must be equipped with electric turn signal lights meeting the requirements of (b) of this section, except that passenger cars and trucks less than 80 inches in width, and manufactured or assembled before January 1, 1953, need not be equipped with electric turn signal lights.

(b) When required under this section, a vehicle must be equipped with electric turn signal lights which indicate an intention to turn by flashing lights showing to the front and rear of the vehicle on the side of the vehicle toward which the turn is to be made, and visible from a distance of at least 500 feet in sunlight. The lights showing to the front must be mounted on the same level, as widely spaced laterally as practicable and, when signaling, must emit yellow light except that on a vehicle manufactured before January 1, 1969, the lights showing to the front may emit white or yellow light, or a shade of light between white and yellow. The lights showing to the rear must be mounted on the same level, as widely spaced laterally as practicable and, when signaling, must emit a red or yellow light, or a shade of light between red and yellow.

alaska code cali code..it doesn't really matter as long as you are a state in the union you have to abide by the FMVSS. it's a federal law. you have to have side markers...and if you change them they still have to shine the color that came on the car..that's why if you have clear corners they have to shine yellow (OE color) or you get a ticket. also if it came with the car you can't take it off all together (ie remvoing them or making the jet black so they don't light up). I'm not to sure about the law on adding lights (the lights you add cannot be the same color as an emergency vehical, red/blue...other than that i'm not too sure. but that's anouth topic all together)

no weather or not your area is **** and you get a ticket who knows....but you will not pass a safty inspection on your car.

AKBen.... i dont see anything in there that says you can get away with not having them....

Most (I say most because I cant and dont want to verify this) highway codes have somewhere in them that state if its manufactured in a certain way, its gotta be that way. you cant just arbitrarily remove parts of whats considered safety items without breaking the law.

They aren't turn markers (turn signals)...they're always on, just like the running lights.

And I've seen lots of cars without any lights on the sides at all...I've made a point of looking since I was paranoid about my clear corners.
