Brake Caliper Opinions

Hi all, i just got my 8 about a week ago, and am already noticing the brake calipers. They don't look bad, but they also don't look good. The thought of painting them has crossed my mind, but i don't know what color would look good.

I have a red 8 and originally was thinking about a dark yellow or almost gold color. But then i thought it might look to much like a mcdonalds sign. Anyone have a red 8 that has painted calipers? If so what color and can i see a pic? Everyone else i'd like to her some opinions on what u think would look good. Keeping them "as is" is still an opinion i guess.

i personally don't care about the calipers. but if i WERE to paint them, i'd do it the same color as the gold brembo brakes that come on the 350Z/G35. just don't do red...i beg you.

I have a blue 8 and painted the calipers and rotor hats blue. The stock color would rust and be various shads. The blue paint has held up great. Will post some pics as soon as the road salt is gone here in Indy. I also did the same to my Yellow Protege 5 but in red it looked awesome.

wera -- how did you prep the hubs (you called them hats?) before you painted them? I gotta get rid of that rust.

I think that gold/bronze on the G35 looks nice and would probably look good on a red 8. But I've never seen that shade of paint anywhere.

I say go red on red. I think if you did Silver, it would look more or less stock. Black isn't terribly noticable.

Although if you can find a gold color like the 350Z it would be nice (not flat out yellow, ok?).

I've got the titanium...and painted the calipers red....and then got some real sweet RX-8 stickers made especially for the calipers. I think it looks GREAT!

Blue calipers are nice, the titanium picks up blue highlights when the sky is clear.

brothervoodoo, when you paint your caliper , did you spray them or did you brush them?
i was bored today so i took a trip to the body shop to check out my car
i picked up a box of G2 red paint from a local auto shop for $50 and painted my calipers
it doesn't look smooth but it can't tell from far, i wonder is that what everybody's been doing. yours looks very shine and glossy.

here's some pics i took with my phone sorry for the bad solution....

Mine were brushed on. I used a caliper paint kit from Dupli-Color. It came with a can of brake/caliper cleaner, a brush and small can of paint (probably $16). You need to clean the calipers well, otherwise the paint "may" coat unevenly. I think you would have to go an extra step and possibly sand or angle grind the calipers to make them look as smooth as some have shown. Mine are not glass smooth but still look reasonable well, imo.
