Pop that hood and lemme see what you have under there again, Bob...
I still haven't painted my ugly calipers yet...they're definitely more rusty and bumpy looking than when I first posted this thread..It's gonna be a real PITA.

Is it necessary to apply primer on the callipers before spraying them? I'm going to do them silver. I just want to get rid of the rusty look they all seem to create.

Cannot stress this enough. I spent AT LEAST an hour per wheel between the caliper and rotor hub. Prep is the most important. After that, cleaned and dried real well. Then as many coats as I felt like doing. The G2 kit was enough for probably 8 coats of both calipers and hubs.

THanks for the feedback guys, I did them last night.
I brushed the ***** outta them with a drill wire brush extension. Did the job! I took pictures of it too but will upload as soon as I find the connection for my phone.
I got paint all over the pads too but it doesn't matter as i'm due new ones anyway.

I had mine painted red, really liked it, but I had to replace my calipers two weeks after getting the car because someone screwed with them and kinked the lines in. So I got a set of used ones, and those are on right now. Plan on painting them again though. Call it ricey, but I like that it stands out. Silver would look good, anything that doesnt blend in with the rest of the car, so the black caliper on a black rx like mine... its pointless.

I've had mine painted blue for some time now. I used the cleaner that came with the paint .. basically just a grease/oil solvant. Sprayed it on. Waited 10 minutes for it to sit. Rub it down with a rag really well and then painted them.
The only thing I wish is that the calipers were bigger on this car. They look a little too small for my liking. I saw an acura RL on the road yesterday with nicely red painted calipers .. they were much bigger than the 8.
I'm surprised more people havn't done them in blue. So far I seem to be the only one.

I sprayed mine silver because I wanted it to match the bodywork. In my opinion it looks very good. Also it gets rid of the rust which was my main goal.
TYLER - the reason the brakes are the size they are is for weight saving purposes.
Bigger brakes = more weight
They put on the biggest brakes they could get away with without affecting performance too much.

Mine are painted red and while I agree if you don't want them to stand out, you shouldn't go this way but calling it "ricey" is asinine and vaguely racist. My buddy's Porsche came with them red, so is that "ricey"...if not, does that mean it wouldn't be "ricey" if ours came from the factory that way...ridiculous...if you want them red, do it...hell put some green dots on there and make it the RXmas-8...

I have been modifying for a few years now, and I totally agree with clean works. In my opinion, I would paint the shield behind the rotors black for sure, keeps it from rusting out. But this whole thread is a personal taste question. I personally love the brake calipers standing out. So you are more than welcome to your opinion, and I am to mine hah

If you ever get new rotors, get them cadmium plated....they won't rust...not even the veins!
I had the calipers painted silver with G2 paint. It really depends on the car color and wheel color too...I chose silver because of both.
Hmmmmm...color balance or more attention...up to you

I have a winning blue 8 as well.
I'm thinking of painting my calipers, but not sure which colour.
Can you send a pic of how it looks on your car ?

Sure I'll do it this weekend. Spring has finally come to the North East and I've actually had my car in the garage for the better part of the past 4 months so I planned on washing it this weekend and I'll snap a few pictures of it and post them for you.

I finally painted my calipers, Black (more consistent with black cherry mica finish), this past weekend. The G-2 kit is very covenient (brake cleaner, paint, epoxy reactor, and brush included), assured high temp resistant, and looks great. I did do some wire brushing prior to the cleaner dosing.

Nice. 14 months . . . good job Bassy!!
Mine got a nice touch up when I did the rotors last year. I've been so damn busy the last 2 weeks that I still haven't swapped wheels. It'll have to be done this week.
