Yes the OEM ones are functional as well, BUT because of the thick plastic material and bulkiness of it there is less air flow thru the OEM ones

those do look really nice, i take back what i said, it looks better in the light. Id rather spend the 200 dollars elsewhere though honestly like on the new RB intake system. but yah when i said u could get a cf hood for under 235 i meant for other cars like on a civic or an accord which cost like 150... sorry shouldve been more clear.

nope you dont need to take off the wheel at all..

it only takes less than a minute to pop them off

just turn your wheel to one side accordingly and take out the 3 pop rivets and voila you can reach in the back and pop the vents off

So I guess I'm out, I wanted the vents in Red Kevlar to match the hood, and this is the message I received from Marc at Geminicomposites today:

Hello Brian,

The fender vents are now available, the cost for the RX-8 club members is 215.00 CDN or 180.00 USD, that includes shipping. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the colour of the carbon material. We have no immediate plans for the trunk or the gas door, but we hope to start working on the mirror covers soon. As far as other parts go, if there is enough demand and people are willing to wait for us to do the tooling for the molds, we are open to most any new product suggestions.

Best regards,
Marc

When I emailed him, he asked me if I want Black or Silver....

I guess he meant the mesh right?

Anyway, I ordered and wanted all black anyway, since my car is black. I want one just like yours BIU.

EDIT: have a closer look on yours - look like silver .... I think I still want black. Black is better as it does not show up as much and it is still have the classy look of CF.

Ok he was answering the question that I asked about making a hood with more grey than usual. I misunderstood what question he was answering, I'm back in and getting these vents!

Hello Brian,

When i said the colour couldn't be changed i was referring to making a hood more grey for your friends car. We can make the fender vents with the red carbon/kevlar for you.

Best regards,
Marc

About the vented hood from Gemini...

Is the vent going to get water into the engine bay? You see the winds will gather the water at the central part of the hood when the car is moving????~!

yeah water is going to get in no matter where your vents are...

but if you have your engine cover on the water doesnt really affect anything because it will just roll off the edges of the cover........ and i wouldnt really recommend having the cover off if you have the vented hood because the alternator is around that area where the vents are... you dont really want water on there

Yup its more than enough for the job, i "tried" yanking mine off...its impossible lol

yup just keep the tape where they are...Marc already has them all at the right spots...just take off the OEM vents, peel off the backings of the tape...and pop them babies on
