CF rear exhaust shrouds
anybody interested in CF rear exhaust shrouds like these to be made?
(credit to Thew at mazdaparts.com for this picture)
I understand they are already on the market and can be had for 350 + shipping... but thats abit too rich for my blood for 2 small pieces like that.
so if i get some support from you guys and that i see that there are enough interests for these i can get these made by Gemini (my local CF shop that did my CF hood search for keyword Gemini if you want to see pictures of their products) If you've heard about the famous VW/Audi tuner company HPA before....Gemini is the shop that does their fibreglass and CF parts for their famous R32 etc...
and i am pretty sure the price will be much lower than the ones already out on the market right now.....im guessing a figure around 250 or even possible lower.... and they can also be avaliable in colored kevlar CF to match your ride if you've got a blue, yellow, red 8 etc...
Your feedback is muchly appreciated.

How well does carbon fiber like this (I'm assuming we're talking about wet layup here) hold up to the heat of the exhaust tips? Any idea? Also...it seems that it might look odd having the carbon exhaust shrouds while still retaining the center black plastic stuff. I wonder if the center piece could also be done, and maybe replace that fake grill-like area with some real mesh. Are those front fender vent inserts still available (I think the same shop made those right?) This could get dangerously close to replacing all of the visible black plastic from the exterior. Which would be really kick ***...

i like the idea of replacing the entire back piece along with the pieces around the exhaust. i got one of the hoods from them a while back and it is still the highlight of my car. i would definitely buy pieces for the back in the matching black with blue kevlar!
if you go to their site the blue 8 is mine. the fitment is perfect and i would back up their quality anytime!

i understand how you guys are entertaining the idea of the whole rear piece being CF...
but also keep in mind if the ENTIRE rear piece is to be make in CF..
1) the price will be alot more than the two shrouds im talking about right now
2) it will be hard for me to search for an entire rear piece to make a mold out of
3) shipping will also be expensive
I, for one, think that with just the shrouds being made into CF will actuall make the rear end quite unique
so who are you are certainly interested? list your names down.
and if you are worried about their quality of work... dont be... just ask anyone here on this forum who has gotten Gemini's products.... anyone can vouch for their work!

so are you guys saying if the whole rear piece was made.... there would be more ppl interested?
you would be expecting sth like 450 - 500 .... You guys sure?
For the shrouds piece if i can get a couple ppl commited and interested i can go ahead and get that started at Gemini but if the entire rear piece is to be made i figure there would be a need of some deposits to be put down first before anything could start....i think it would be too risky for Gemini if they were to produce a big and expensive piece like that without any actual commitment ( deposit )
and YES they can make the entire rear piece with the fake mesh part cut out and with real mesh put in.......... it would look awesome but i need to ask you guys once again....
WHO is actually ready to put down a deposit and is really wanting this piece? I dont want to have all these ppl say they want it and at the end noone getting it once Gemini is done with it.... I do not want that to happen because Marc at Gemini has been really nice with the RX-8 community and has been very open eared about new products...

I, for one, WILL buy right now if the whole rear black plastic piece is done in carbon fiber!!! I'll put my name #1 with a down payment if necessary. Just let me know.
I would want the rear rotary emblem to still be used as well. Possibilty?

the price will be around 450-500 i figure.
for those ppl that are REALLY willing to put down a deposit and go ahead with this. List your names down and i figure if we can get 5 ppl interested we can get this rolling right away.

3.?
4.?
5.?

etc...
the quicker ppl fill up that list the quicker we can get this project started!

Just to clarify - It's just the black plastic area that will be done in cf NOT the whole bumper right?
.....and yes with the real mesh - possibly an aluminun or something silver as opposed to black
....also it will be made so that it simply replaces the current pieces (i.e. clips, screws and such) and then we'll just apply are rear rotor emblems ourselves?

You do realize that the lower black bumper fascia is part of the rear bumper itself...right? I see no way of replacing that section without leaving part of the old section there for attachement which means an overlay is necessary ... much like the MAZDASPEED.

Oh, crap. Of course you're right...well, it wouldn't have to be overlays, they could do it just like Mazdaspeed, but we're talking cutting apart the stock rear plastic to make it fit. Ugh.

Rotary extreme has a cf piece that is just the bottom valence. Check it out on their website for details. It's just the ms rear valence in cf for $900. Quite steep if you ask me. So when this thread opened with the possibility of having the oem matched rear valence in cf for around $450 I thought, "Finally!" Exactly what I was looking for.
Pur Nrg has the rotary extreme cf piece on his 8 and after some modification he got it to work just fine. There has to be a way to get this piece done. The shrouds come off but the middle section does not, is that the problem were running into? How is it attached to the bumper? Glue, clips, screws or is it all just one piece?
Any further ideas on how we can get this piece made?

I think the others have said that the middle section is a part of the rear bumper so it cant be taken off.
and lastly my figure of ~$450 is just an estimate from me, no official word from Gemini yet but at the most, give or take 100 which is still far from the 900 you've brought up
