Did someone say hood tilt? Search and there are a few threads that discuss the effectiveness. The main issue is the farther back the vents are, the more a cowl effect is seen, I removed the battery tray (reloated) and intake tray (CAI) to try to even out pressure and have air actually push out the back. Since then I've opted for something different though.

To whoever asked, do not remove the understray. Let's think here, if it actually prevented better airflow, why would Mazda put it there to begin with. Circulation doesn't necessarily outweigh radiator pressure...

No numbers to back it up which I'll always admit to be my greatest fault. Due to the exposed radiator fans (both) and there being a gaping hole in the back of the bay I figured there must be some sort of circulation. Comparing back to back with a 100% stock rx8 there was a hand-in-engine-bay difference after freeway drives and canyon runs. I also had the throttle body bypass and lower rad fan temps at the time as well.
