Question Clear Bra - need answer

My 8 is 3 weeks old. And there are already so many nicks and chips on front bumper and hood. I think it's due to the heavy rain here in LA. Rocks are tossed up by those SUV's along with water on the freeway.

I am thinking about getting a clear bra installed. Since there are quite a few chips on the bumper, the surface is not as smooth anymore. If I have it installed, will there be air bubles 'cause of that? Would the bra still hold up as well as if had it put on perfect paint? Is it too late to install? Anyone has similar experience? Please help. Thanks.

Hello,

I have had this clear bra called Roadblock. It is made by 3M, and had it on my maxima and now my RX-8. The chips will cause a small bubble but the material shrinks a bit and the bubbles do go away eventually. A week or two.

My RX-8 had it when I got it new, but I am still getting nicks high on the hood more than half way up. If you have it done see if they will put it high on the hood and also in front of the sunroof above the windshield. I found a nick there too . I am going to try and see if I can the most of the hood covered myself.

I like this product very much, and it can be waxed. I recommended you keep it waxed since it can stain. I had it over 6 months on my Maxima and had no problems with it at all. Also I recommend getting it on your headlights and fog lamps.

If you get it you shouldn't be disappointed.

I would highly recommend it sooner than later. I've had mine from clear-guard.com on for over a year and three monthes now and at 10k there isn't a chip in sight. I've recently put it on my '05 Expedition Limited and will continue to put it on cars in the future. I've also sold the idea to several friends and they are just as happy.

I had mine installed about 3 weeks and had a few nicks not too many. You can probably get them to clay bar for a few extra $$$ before they put in on. You could also try touching it up yourself. The bra will grip tightly regardless. The only bubbles that have seemed to form and they are a few, are from new rock dings. I can tell you the front looks much much better than it would have without the clear bra. I have had mine for about 9 months now. Look at it this way, if you don't put it on you will just have more nicks and dings than you do now.

Just got it installed couple days ago. Looks good. Didn't have to touch up anything. The film got sucked right into the "uneven" surface.

I had into put on the head lights too. But after that, I looks like the lights are not as bright as it used to be just by a little. Also, the film's got a minor orange peel, ans when the lights are on, I can see some those pattern shaded. Has anyone noticed this?

Thanks for the response.

I have a brand new front bumper kit from clear-guard.com available for cheap if you are interested. Had a problem with my first one, they sent me a new one, and I never put it on the repainted bumper...

Has anyone DIYd this stuff? Looks simple enough but I'm a chicken when it comes to messing up the looks of my 8. How much did the installation cost?

Anyone know of an experienced installer in Pittsburgh PA?

Does this stuff help hide the orange peel, make it worse, or ??

Thanks - helpful thread. I am heading across the country soon and definately needs something before I take off.
