It is DOT regulation that there has to be an amber lens on the sides of the front of the vehicle.

Amber bulbs with clear lens aren't enough to satisfy the DOT but are usually enough to make your car legal or at least keep you from getting a ticket in your locality.

-Mr. Wigggles

Ps. Black looks better with amber? "To 'keech his own," I guess.

I have amber corners on my black MX-6 obviously, and I would never think of paying money for clears. I shouldn't have said better on every car, but it definitely is not any worse on black.

I didn't realize it was a DOT regulation though. You learn something every day.

yes, i'm very pro-regulation as far as colouration and making sure the car's visibililty is where it should be.

i just think that the whole "Euro" bland thing is just old... black Beemers with clear everythings are just boring to me; i like colour, it's not a crime :p

Clear corners

Just checking out the JT website http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_RX8_JDM_Parts.htm

and noticed they sell the corners with a wiring harness? Why can't the stock harness be used?

From the website, "We sold several sets of these with the harness and the majority of customers said the harness was NOT needed so we put up the option of weither you would like it or not."

You can use the factory harness...maybe a different version of the 8 outside the states and Japan requires the harness..but I haven't heard any reason you would need it...I didn't..

Just the winker - It's all you need. $51 out the door. Will arrive in a week or so due to the holiday. Easy to install and a great addition to the 8's appearance. Ordered mine from jt and all went smoothly.

The bulb you want to keep amber and legality in some areas is 194NA.

You don't need the wiring harness on a US-spec 8. You should order the amber/yellow bulbs though; they're required in most jurisdictions.

Question Clear side markers, what did you pay?

SO how much should I be looking at paying for the clear side markers? I found someone selling them on ebay last week for lke $60 plus $15 S&H. How much $ have those of you out there paid for yours??? Where did you get them? Any suggestions? I just wasn't sure if $75 was a good deal or not...

Canzoomer should be able to get them to you for $62. $53 +$9 shipping to Texas (so it might be even cheaper for you, he lives in Canada)

Is it illegal to have clear bulbs in your side markers....also...what do you all prefer...removing the little reflector that blocks light out of the rest of the bulb or keeping it in????

its supposidley illegal to run any color other than amber in your corners.

also clear corners are technically illegal because they dont reflect amber, but rarely will a cop but you for it
