Clearcoat/ paint blending Questions... problem with my new RX8!

I just posted a lengthy post in the "Bad DealerShip" thread on the Goodguys/Bad Guys forum, here.. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...d=1#post766342

However I've a question if someone knows a lot about autobody work, paint and clearcoat.

I've a White RX8, brand new, not 2 weeks old. For reasons you can read in the thread, my car had to have a door fixed, repainted and blended with the passenger door. During this process, it is my guess (and the dealerships) that thier autobody didn't cover the rest of the vehicle and there is now ClearCoat Overspray on the entire back half of the car. (You can actually feel where it starts on the back rear window, as if they covered some of the car but not the entire thing)

My question is this... how hard/easy is it to remove clearcoat overspray? The dealer is telling me that they can just 'buff it off', but they've already failed at one attempt (I'm not sure they even tried).

If they succeed, will it damage the paint, or will they need to re-clearcoat the parts they remove it from?

Also, what if any future problems should I expect from this 'blending' of the door's paint.. my previous car was in a major accident, and the autobody shop did a super job painting it, however about 4 years later, the blends were clearly noticable (it was a dark green color, 6 years old at the time of the repair and I live in FL, so not sure if they were the cause, or just the blending itself coming undone).

I'm trying to fight with the dealership since they have had the car almost as long as I have during the first 2 weeks I've owned it.. I want to go in informed the next time about what to expect long term with thier screw ups.

speak to a manager or general owner if you must they oversprayed your car.
my old rx7 years ago went in for a hood paint job and came out with clearcoat on doors, window and wheels that were aftermarket.i let them have it and had to glaze or salmonize im not really sure which one but make sure you speak to someone on it.
p.s it will bother u like it bothered me when u wash the car

If it's not too thick of a over spray, you can rub it out with paint cleaner. I had to do this once because I got spray paint all over my car.

thats a big no no not to cover the rest of the car when painting/clearing.

in most case, the overspray can be buffed out. but knowing the quality of mazda factory paint/clear, i'd be very careful on doing that. to buff it, you'd need to know how much clear you have, ie. thinkness/layer of application. if not careful, it can be buffed through then a couple of coats of colour and clear will have to be re-applied.

speak to the dealer and find out what the warranty is and whats their standard procedure.

usually they will use semi coarse compound to get rid of the sand paper surface and then finer compound to smooth it out then apply polish compound to make it shiny. the time takes for it to fade is depending on the quality of the product and application.

i'd have something in writting from the dealer/autobody shop stating that if they cant buff it out properly, have the whole car sand back and re-apply the clear coat. it. lights/rubber seals/door handles off, and make sure there are no oversprays on the door jambs and inside of the doors/bonnet and boot lid.

good luck

Picking it back up in a few hours... talked to thier Sales manager last night and it got me nowhere except his statement of "Leave it with us again and we'll take care of it.."

Today I learned that they had to clay the entire car, and supposidly it's gone... I'll find out soon enough... crossing my fingers.

update: Just got the car back, and it seems that the claybar was successful in removing the overspray... only problem is that they missed the top of the bumper.. oh well gives me something to do for the weekend. :D
