Angry cracking windshield!!

So I noticed the other day that I had a small crack in my windshield. I have no idea how it got there. Seems like every day it's growing too. By some small miracle is this covered by warranty? I really don't want to pay $500 for a new windshield... is there anything else I can do?

crack

yeah usually u can go to either the dealership or some place that does windows to get it sealed, that prevents it from cracking further but there is no way to completely get rid of the crack w/o replacing the windshield

how long is the crack? you might be able to fix it a lil if it's less than the size of a quarter.

It's now about 13 inches long. It starts at the top middle where the rearview mirror attaches, and snakes it's way down and to the driver side!

talk to your insurance company. you may be covered and not have to pay a thing.

I had the same exact problem with my wife's jeep when we bought it this past Sept. A crack formed right where the rear mirror was mounted. it traveled about 9 in. before it stopped. I didn't see any spot where a rock hit it. It was just a clean crack, I told the dealer that since the car is new and no sign of impact it must be something to do with the mirror. I was talking out of my *** but they didn't argue. Free fix, you can try it who knows.

i'm actually getting my windshield replaced tomorrow. my crack starts at the bottom and makes a backwards question mark into the center of the window. i am covered by the insurance company(geico) so i dont have to pay anything. check with your insurance company to see if your covered. i'll let you know how my replacement goes tomorrow.

my new windshield is in. the installer did a real good job imo. it was done by safelite and took about 40 minutes to do for one guy. so far so good. just to let you know that the quote on the bill was for $420 if you had to buy for it.

this happened with the last car i drove. It is called a stress crack and happens when your car bends too much around your windshield or your windshield had a defect to start with. The dealer i dealt with agreed to pay for part of the windshield but not all of it and none of the insulation. If your car is under warranty, they should fix it for you.

Now don't quote me here, but I believe in the State of Florida that ANY windshield crack MUST be fixed by insurance at no cost....no matter who you have. I had two replaced over the years in other vehicles and both times while it was worked through the insurance company(Geico in my case), the replacements were actually done in my driveway one time, and the other time while my car was in the work parking lot. 40 minutes tops. Check with your insurance!

I just found this: Florida Statute 627.7288 states that the deductible shall not apply to windshield damages.

Title XXXVII
INSURANCE Chapter 627
INSURANCE RATES AND CONTRACTS

627.7288 Comprehensive coverage; deductible not to apply to motor vehicle glass.--The deductible provisions of any policy of motor vehicle insurance, delivered or issued in this state by an authorized insurer, providing comprehensive coverage or combined additional coverage shall not be applicable to damage to the windshield of any motor vehicle covered under such policy.

Now I know it probably doesn't help you out, but do a search in your home state and see what comes up. I used "Windshield Florida Statute" to find it.
