Painting the bottom does look kind of cool—and it's different.
But doing that, I think, makes the rear of the car seem bigger, giving it the illusion of having a big butt. (Actually, it kinda IS a big back for such a sleek little car. I could be wrong, but I suspect Mazda makes the bottom of the bumper black to visually make the rear seem not-so-big.)

i think that painted the back part just makes the car look like it has a wider stance. Anything instead of paying for a wide body kit....lol.

from the marketing point of view.... i believe mazda left the rear lower section black so who ever buys the mazdaspeed rear lower section (whether it is genuine or replica) will actually see where their money went.....

The Winning blue RX8 with white wheels is mine...I love it!!

The painting lasts without any problem IF you add the mazda exhaust finishers

I agree it could look quite cool. But you'd probably do the looks a favour if you were to sand those areas (back lower bumper, mirror bottom sections and front lower bumper lip section thing) smooth first to get rid of the texture and give yourself a nice smooth area to paint on. I reckon that could look pretty good

i dont know much about bodywork, but the guy who quoted me with a price told me that it wasnt good to sand that area because it might come out uneven. my idea behind that is that they wouldnt be able, because of their inexperience, to sand a bumper smooth. also, they told me it would be 500$ to repaint my bumper; who knows what they can do . But im getting a different opinion.

Good plan to get a second opinion because I wouldn't imagine it would be hard to do that sort of sanding at all... I've worked with plastics and sanding before - not that I've worked on a car's bumpers before - but I would imagine it would be much the same story. I just reckon a smooth glossy finish would look much better than a textured glossy finish...

Good luck though, whatever the outcome

Yes, smooth and glossy is the way to go. Don't don't keep it textured. I did mine (smooth) in winning blue. I'll post a pic when I get home on Wednesday
