Different doors
Someone please help me...
I'm not into modding... at all. While I have nothing against people that buy kits, spoilers, and hoods, I myself wouldn't be caught spending my money on devices that only make my car look faster/sportier/more exotic.
However, there are exceptions to every rule: there are certain cars that just don't look "right" and need some additional curves/accents to complete lines in the body. On a car that flaunts it's uniqueness from every nook and cranny, normal doors just seem out of place.
Like I said, I'm not really into the whole modding scene, and there aren't very many threads here regarding door mods, so I'm at a loss. Dunno where to look, who to ask, what my options are, how much I'd have to spend, how long it would take to do, if it's an easy DIY job, etc, etc...
plz post pics.
pros & cons are nice, too.
Thanks in advance

you got the vertical door kits that u can purchase to make the front open like lambos, but honestly i think the 8 already has pretty unique doors, how many car do you see on the road sport suicide doors.
on a sidenote, i always thought that if the backdoors slid open like a minivans instead of flip open like they do now, it'd be a) more practical, b) extremely sexy if it was automatic

I whole heartedly agree with the minivan idea. The doors should open like the sunroof (but sideways obviously) - flare out and slide back. Get in, sit down, press a button, and the doors would slide back around you.... omg that would be so sexy..

How much weight? I don't track or drag so I really don't care if I lose a little omph off the line. Just as long as cornering isn't comprimized I'm happy.

I am unsure, but you have to figure motors, track or custom fabbed hinges in the case of the sliding back doors. I would venture to guess +/- 10 lbs.
Considering most folks will spend $1000 for a CF hood to drop some weight, I don't think this would be a popular mod.
just my .02

I feel like a lot of people are trying to venture away from the "lambo door" style as its now seen on almost every car and being frowned upon. But I'm sure you can find a number of kits if you search around. eBay usually sells generic kits, but they tend to require some professional fabrication to work properly.

I'm doing it because nothing on the 8 is "normal" except for the driver and passenger doors, and they just seem out of place to me.
I'm big on catching people's eyes with my car, but not by buying kits, stickers, paint, wings, or any of the other common "ricer" methods. On the move I'll look completely stock, so I'll avoid unwanted challenges & attention while driving, but at meets and around friends I'll get a nice "oooo! ahhhh!" moment. I've got the money to spend, and if I don't put it towards unique doors, I'm sure I'll find some other equally pointless thing to spend the money on like a third computer or another HD TV.
...Plus I'm getting tired of kicking my door speaker EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I get out. The thought of getting that door out of the way without having to leave 4 feet of clearance between me and car to my left makes me quite happy.

Pseudo-edit (he posted while I was posting)
You find me a trusty, skilled, LOCAL fabricator, and I'll gladly be the guinnea pig for this.

So you want the door to be out of your way better. You dont want lambo doors, you dont want it to be visable when driving, you don't want it to add weight and you want it to be reliable.
