Dissapointed in body kit options.

So far ive been really dissapointed.

All the kits are mazdaspeed ripoffs or they cost $2500. When will some companies step up and make some aggresive but nice looking kits that wont break the bank.

Seems like all the other tunrer cars have way more options and dont have to order from japan.

Just venting i guess.

Unless they're replicas, they're gonna be expensive. I think most would agree that this is true across any car.

As far as body kit options go, we have more than needed for our cars. I only wish this was true for performance parts.

??? i have seen all kinds of REPLICA kits of the major ones, for anywhere from 500-1200 bucks.

IMO you get what you pay for. I have had friends by kits that were made of such thin/cheap fiber glass that they actualy cracked and broke when you go to speeds over about 80mph.....

Not a bad selection for a car going into it's 3rd model year.

the reason they cost so much is because this is a 30k car
plus its not a common car so many shops dont keep rx8 body kits in stock

^ yup, you can get civic bodykits anywhere because they are so common and many teens like to have fun and rice. RX-8s are not common cars so it is going to take more to get a bodykit on it.

True statement. Everything I need for my 8 out here in HAwaii has to be ordered and shipped. Ends up costing more usually.

^Exactly!!! Cheap knock-offs will cost less and give you a much lower level of quality and dependability. A good quality kit will run higher and cause you fewer headaches and most likely last longer, not to mention better fitment.

go out and get yourself vol. 96 of HyperRev....you will see all the body kits that there are for this car : off the top of my head I think there are close to 2 dozen in the mag.

INGS, Fuji, Mazdaspeed, AutoEXE (2 differnt kits), AutoBachs, KeiOffice, Knightsport, Greddy, Veilside, Tsunami, Racing Beat....thats all I can remeber at the moment.

There are TONS of kits for this car, but if you have to spend.

I think that might be what your getting at, with a 350z, EVO, and a lot of other imports, there is a HIGH demand for body kits, so lots of smaller companys make replica kits, knock-offs of the name brand kits. So you have a lot of kits to chose from for low prices.

With the RX8, there are just as many differnt kits as other cars, but since the demand for body kits is lower with this car (older owners, or people not interested in major body mods) the smaller companys arnt making the replica kits...so if you want a kit, you HAVE to get name brand, esp some of the smaller, less know companys.

So I will agree that there are not many low price kits. A good, quality kit, made of any material SHOULD run you at least 1200 bucks for a 4 peice kit (front, sides (2) and rear) when you add the shipping and everything your looking at prices STARTING at 1500 bucks, some kits are closer to DOUBLE that ammount...why? Cause its GOOD quality stuff.

When you see kits that are 500 bucks for a whole kit...the reason is A) the material and craftsmanship is cheap or B) the fit is off.

Lots of the replica kits claim 'molded/cast' from the actual kit....and its true, they buy the real kit, and make a mold of it and make the parts......but thats the LAST thing you want, that means the parts are cast in hard fiberglass from a part not even on a car. So thats why the fit is so bad, and getting it shaped and painted to look like factory on the car can cost you another 500....

IMO, it doesnt make sense to get a cheap copy, you really only save a few hundred bucks doing that, if your that concerned with 300-500 bucks you save with a replica, why did you get a 30k dollar car?

Also, for me at least, I couldnt show my face at car meets with a 'fake' kit, I gotta have the real deal! Authentic parts are all I want!

Awesome. Lots of work went in to that, and I give you due props if you did it (am I allowed to use "props")

Ok. I have a real question. I am sure that I could search for it but I am feeling lazy.

1) what are the weights of all the above?
2) are any of the above functional as far as increased df or internal flow, ie to coolers or to the intake? (for instance the ms kit seems to decrease topend, not that that is bad if you trade df which I am not sure that it does.) And yes I understand that you are not going to get df on the street. I did not fall off the melon truck yesterday. Speaking of melons, EZZY I love your avatars.

1500 is not unreasonable to pay for a real nice bodykit. But some of these Japenese kits will cost you over 3 grand. Considereing a turbo kit cost 2800 its kinda rediculous IMO.

I guess what im getting at is... if you dont order from japan you have a choce of about 3 kits. MS Replica, VS Replica, Tsunami (to expensive w/ no sidemarkers), and buddy club.

bleh. I guess i really havent seen one i really like.

though beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder, i actually agree with Said7 that there's no one bodykit (except the r-magic widebody) that jumps out at me. i just wish someone like Origin Lab would make a kit for the 8. much like the MS kit, Origin Lab kits are very clean, yet aggressive looking. i just prefer clean lines, while standing out from the pack.

to date, i still haven't found the right kit for me.

Drifter you nailed it when you said there is a lack of clean and aggressive body kits. Other than the OEM MazdaSpeed kit which looks more aggressive than stock but still has clean lines and curves that blend with the rest of the body there isn't anything else out there. Most of the rest resort to huge swoops, holes, and protusions that look downright goofy. Actually there is no reason to sell your car and get a civic because all of that cars kit makers must be making kits for our car. Somebody please make a kit that's original that doesn't look like a stinkin fish gasping for air or a $1000 ricer!
