DIY: Silvervision / Stealth Bulbs

I ordered the clear side markers from Roarty Extreme (got it in 3 business days! wow). Thanks to the DIY: Sidemarkers Install I was able to easily take out the reflector inside the side marker.

From there I decided i wanted to get the stealth or silvervision bulbs. But i am not spending 11.99 + 5.95 Shipping on them (no thanks ebay)

So i decided to try to make em myself. Here is my attempt. And how i did it.

Things you need
High Temp Engine Paint Silver (i got it from pepboys)
1/2" Brush
Some sorta bowl (moms fine china is a bad idea!)
some Write wraps
MAsking tape
The 194 Bulbs (of course)
and Beer (for this we went with Harpoon IPA..also beer works as a great excuse if it doesnt come out well ...this is for those that are 21yrs of age at least.. unless u live outta the US then i dont care u know ur laws.. dam canadians)

Step 1:

With the masking tape cover the ends of the bulbs to protect the wiring inside

using the wire wraps create a loop

Step 3:

Lightly paint the bulbs.. Do not make em too dark BTW the picture looks a lot darker then they really are.

Step 4: Hang the bulb to dry over night. There was a reason we made those loops

Step 5: Repeat the process for the 2nd bulb and hang to dry

no i just used regular silver paint. still waitin for it to dry.

u cant tell from the pictures but if u look at the bulb u can see the orange from far it looks silver. basically u apply a very light layer so it covers it up a lil. one coat is enough... remmeber it dries thick

Brush/Spray?

OK, I re-read it and I still don't get it....

If the aim is a very thin coat, why do you spray in a bowl, then dab it on with a brush?

Why not just hold the spray further away? (and wear a glove!)

You can put many thin coats on that way, and stop whenever you are happy....

194 Lamps for $2.99 here:

You get them in 3 days via USPS from this guy and I haven't had one of them not work. He accepts PayPal. Most dependable private business owner I have ever had the pleasure of buying from and every lamp on my car is either LED or "stealth" type except for the fog lights and Xenons. of course.

I believe they are Sylvania brand. I have gotten the "Stealth" style lamps and the LED style lamps and both work very well. Only complaint, they are darker.

The ones you are making will be almost totaly dark OR the paint will burn off, I don't care if it's engine paint or not, that stuffs gotta be thick and lamps get a lot hotter than you think when they are that size.
