I have a feeling it maybe a costume hood because I can't seem to find anything like it anywhere. If anyone knows please tell me.

Haha that's so funny that the hook up shop sells this stuff. I've met the guy who owns it his shop is in poway like 10 mins from my house. He has a crazy rx7 and last time I talked to him he was still building his rx8. I never knew he had a website though.. That hood insert is awesome...

I love the look but I can't get past the idea of a hood scoop that doesn't do anything. On principle that bugs me. I think the concept vehicle had a top-mount intercooler, but I don't think any of the aftermarket kits (not that I can get one anyway right now) use that configuration...I've tried to think of some way to make that a useful scoop on these cars, but I haven't been able to do it.

Everyone likes to be an aero expert but I have yet to see any aero element that causes that much lift at speed... Especially with this piece where the seperatiion layer has already accured in a great enough area(about half way down the hood, and already carried over to the roof) that there is actually not that much air that would be pushing into it, but just enough,,,

Do you think it really would provide any measurable change in engine compartment temps? I'm always concerned that adding something like this could disrupt any cooling flow that Mazda's engineers built into the original design.
It does look damn cool...
