Emblem Tint

I want a stealth look on my BB, but I dont want to spend the money to have the emblems shaved. I found this spray tint on ebay and was wondering if anyone has seen this stuff in person.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EWA:PIC&ih=017

Any input on others ways to darken the mazda emblems would be appreciated.

They're made out of aluminum, get them anodized.

Should cost about $50 and will be incredibly durable.

Will any paint shop abodize them? Also, if its anodized will it have a gloss finish?

Anodizing is not a painting process. They dip the part in an acid to etch it down about a few thou, then they put it in another acid that rusts the outside of the part, with different chemicals do change the color of the rust. So since rust is harder than the original material, it's more durable. In the end you're talking about a ten to 15 thou coat, not noticeable by the naked eye.

The part will not have a gloss finish, but you can polish it to get it.

I want it to have a gloss finish, so from far away it looks like the emblem is missing and just blends. I dont want a flat patch in the middle of the BB paint finish. Thanks for the info Throwdown.

i used floss and took my emblems off, sanded them down, then spray painted them. i used 3m car cement to re-apply the emblems. takes time but the end product is worth it.

yeah, its easier if u use a heat gun before u use the floss to loosen up the 3m tape on the back of the emblems. the mazda symbol was really a pain to get off, and the floss wasent doing it for me, so i used a really thin nail filer and poked behind it in every direction, after a while i could pry the symbol off. heres pics of my car/emblems. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/4-months-into-car-4-grand-130195/

Hey Beeotch can you give some specifics on how you painted the emblems? what kind of sand paper, which grit #? Paint numbers? I cant tell if your emblems are flat or gloss black from the pics....

just soft sand paper to make scratches on the emblems to help the paint stay on better, sand it enough so that it looks really f'd up but still in the same shape as it was. i used black krylon spray paint from the local hardware store. its glossy, just dont touch it until its dry, and by that i mean leave it for about 2 hours. if you touch it too soon even when u think its dry, it leaves fingerprints and makes it look flat.

I did this mod and it looks good......took the emblems off with fishing line. I just sanded it down with 120 grit ( sand every nook and cranny so the paint adheres to it. Then spray painted it with a high gloss paint ( 5 coats )

Didnt cost me Sh%t. and now my car has a stealth look!

Looks good so far. If you took your tail lights apart and did the same to the silver trim, your call would really be stylin.

That would look good, but I'm not a fan of taking apart tailights. There is that chance of moisture getting in there and fogging up (AKA looks like crap). To bad there arent aftermarket tail lights. I would like to get CF ones.
