fixing up the rotary accents???

Well I just bought a set of the rotary accents from a member of the board and they have some minor nicks from road debris. Im wondering if I could be able to sand them down to make them smooth again or is there something else I could do?? I do realize that they will get the nicks back again after I drive with them for a while but I just dont want to put them on in the condition they are in. Btw they are the OEM accents. thanks for the help

A fellow member, altspace, polished out the front accent to be nice and shiny (like this, but that photo is not even final result). It was completely pitted before. I just asked him to post some notes on what he did.

Yea, it was in very rough shape. I used a wire wheel dril bit to grind it down. This of course removes the chrome plating. Then I believe I used 800 grit then 1000 grit wet sanding. Finished it off with a polishing wheel and a ton of hand power to smooth it out with metal polish. Took about 2-3 hours to complete, but the end result is very nice.
