I will be at the race track on the 22nd and I should have my costume front 4" splitter installed. I will be playing with different wing angles.

 

I need some APR splitter support struts. It's not clear if their price is each or for a pair.

Looking around APRs site, its gonna be overkill without alot of front end downforce but was thinking that with some fab work the S2000 diffuser would work well with our car?

I was talking about the rear diffuser, I already am working on my own front splitter, I currently run the Pettit Racing secondary rads in the undertray and am carrying them over to the new splitter/undertray design

I feel this would fit between the span of our exhaust, of course mounting it might be tricky, to get it secure enough to transfer the forces.

 

For the front splitter to truly be effective at high speeds, you will want/need some sort of mounting bar or a way to secure the back side to the frame.

I didn't read your post well, I missed the switch between front end downforce (splitter) and the mention of a rear diffuser. I still do not think you would be able to get the S2K rear diffuser to work on our cars. Reason being is that a rear diffuser works by slowing the air to allow a smooth transition of the air. The most effective diffuser is the one that has the steepest angle without air flow seperation. On a stock RX8 rear bumper the bottem is nearly even with the mufflers. So if you put in a diffuser it is not going to be angled up, which makes it useless, unless you cut off some of the rear bumper, just like the mazdaspeed rear diffuser does. Also the piece is too long, which will completly cover the rear mufflers and it wont be able to handle the heat. So if you are looking for a rear diffuser, I would suggest the mazdaspeed or a replica.

Also a rear diffuser does not really create downforce, it only reduces lift and in some cases aids in the effectiveness of other aero parts.

 

I also thought that the function of a diffuser was to clean(condition) it up by generating vorticies in the corners of the venturis, , more in terms or reduction of drag.
I would not worry about heat of the exhaust at all, it gets hot but not that hot.

I do currently have the MS rear skirt/diffuser

EDIT- Your right on your argument though, I got confused between downforce(which isnt generated by the diffuse), and rear cross section of the car.

 

So essentially something that would hang this low (below our exhaust) would only work if the entire floor of the car was also lowered, thus changing the pitch of the surface of the diffuser, reducing and raising the cross section of the rear

melting carbon fiber? I highly doubt it, there would still be some kind of flow of air , becuase its not completely boxed in,and Its not exactly cheek and cheek in terms of how close it is right?

 

Even if the carbon fiber does not melt, it would be like a hot oven in there and it would melt the bumper or the bottom side of the car.

I have never felt it, but dont people say our trunk floor gets hot?

What I am thinking about doing to clean up the air flow is running aluminum under the exhaust and connecting to the mazdaspeed diffuser. I would have louvers put into the aluminum o the hot air can easily escape. I might still work on better heat shielding to product the bumper.

 

The mazdapseed diffuser should work fine the way it is. It has the right angle and it has the fins. I wish the fins where a little more pronounced but I think they get the job done (keeps the air flowing in the right direction)

 

would you like them tall and extended more forward into that compound curve, because I was thinking the same thing, much like the Leg Motorsporst rear bumper, or the RE Amemiya rear, or much like what is pictured above in the S2k. I can make taller longer fins(well the prototype at least) in about 2 days, and they would fit right over the fins of the MS rear, interested?

I think the fins work well enough and I am not looking to change the diffuser or modify it in any way. I think time, money and energy are better spent on other parts like a under car panels to smooth out the air flow.
