Gullwing the Suicide Doors!!!!!

Here is a question I couldn't find an answer to, and yes i did a search on it, so if this thread has already been started I appologize!!

Wondering if it's possible to convert the rear suicide doors into Gullwing doors??? I figure it would give a great looking original style at shows ect. Any ideas?????

If your into that much of the show scene then it may be pretty unique. If your into keeping the performance of your car at the top of your priorities then adding an absurd amount of wieght that high in the chassis will definately have an affect on your ride, I would think.

Should I slap you now or later? Maybe you should just weld the two doors together and make it one-big-***-ugly-gullwing-door. Maybe huh? Then you can reach your 150mph top speed and fly away. Sharing is Caring... Please pass around whatever you are smoking

I never thought of it having to add so much weight. I just found a site with more info on Gullwings, and now it all makes sense. NO WAY do I want to mess with the performance of the 8.
I agree I should be slapped for thinking of this idea from a performance standpoint. I do still feel they would look pretty bad *** from the style side of things though.
As for what I'm smokin..... it's fresh Canadian BC Big Bud... puff puff, pass to ZumnRx8

Maybe Gullwing style front doors with the already suicide rears would look awesome. MazdaManiac has a similar set-up. Sexy as FAWK.

Doing the front doors would be adding even more weight than the rears, but from a styling view that does sounds pretty sexxy!!
What set-up does MazdaManiac have?? Lambo fronts?? Or something diff??
I've seen the Lambo kits, and I like them! I geuss I'm just trying to think outside the box on this one, but it won't work without sacraficing the performance of the 8.

If you're wondering if it's possible, then yes, anything is possible if you have the cash. Question is, "should" you do it or not.

In my opinion, if you have something that -you- want to do, and something that -you- think is going to look 'cool', then go for it. Screw what others are going to think, if your RX-8 experience, and you can make it into whatever you want to. Just don't expect the whole community to agree with your taste, and don't become offended by the general community's distaste for such things.

I've always been a fan of the lambo doors, but unless they're on a wide body lambo, then there isn't much poing to them other than adding weight and looking awesome. I consider it a purely 'show' mod. If my RX-8 wasn't my daily driver, and I was only using it as a show car, then it would definitely pick up a set of vertical doors, just for added show points.

EDIT: What it really all boils down to is the direction you're going with modding your RX-8. Is it going to be a track demon, or a show queen? That's where you've got to decide, and then pick and choose your mods carefully, in accordance with your budget, and other ideals. If you're planning on going the performance route, I'd let this one go.

Like Zmn said adding an altered door kit to the front makes our cars appear very exotic, I would suggest that you either have some go to compliment the doors or go all show,,,

here are the two best examples, done right, Shinka213(Pat)

And MazdaManics

Very Very nice!! Your right it adds a whole lot of exotic to the car. Deff. a cheaper and easier mod to install.
I know I don't want to mess with the performance of the car, but eventually I can see myself wanting to do more shows and start putting more original mods on. Might have to keep this idea in my back-pocket. If I get myself another performance car, and can keep this as a show car.
If anyone ever sees a pic of gullwing style doors on an 8, I would love to see the pics!!!

the only way I would think that it would make sense would be to weld the front and rear doors together and then do a custom gullwing setup

Never thought of that idea. Might end up making more sense then doing just the fronts or rears. But there would be a whole lot more structure work involved in doing them all. Another reason i was thinking just the rear doors. Not as much work would need to be done to the structure of the car itself.
Thanks for the input. Deff. giving me lots to think about for the future. But for now, it's time to get her on the road and drive her like I stole her!!!!!

Like how it was called, "rotary door"?

It kind of goes with your comment about welding the doors together. It gives you an idea what it would look like.
