Has anyone else here installed an air dam or rear aero flares on their RX-8?

I am considering adding an air dam to the list of things I want to use the Mazda parts rebate for but I wanted to try and install all the parts myself. I just wanted to know if anyone here has installed their own air dam and if you have any tips?

Also is there any need to drill into the painted portion of the car? If it's not too much trouble I also wanted to know the same about the rear aero flares.

Thanks!

I did the front air dam without taking the front off. However, it is mucho easier to take off the front to do this. Taking off the front is nat as hard as it seems nor looks. If you want some good instructions with pics on how to do that, email me at dkmdk1@ameritech.net and I will attach them with a reply.

As far as the side aero flares, I do not have them but understand they are easy to install as MazdaManiac described.

The aeroflares require that you cut holes in the rear bumper cover. Mazda provides a template for this.

I installed these and the side skirts all in one afternoon with hand tools only. It is very simple.
Just an FYI - I put on the rear aero flares myself and chose NOT to drill into the bumper. Each flare attaches by 2 screws in the wheel well, and then the side that goes along the bumper uses a strip of doublestick tape along with hole that needs to be drilled for a tab on the outside of the flare. I chose to cut the tab on the flare and rely on the doublestick tape to hold it.

I installed them last October, and they show no sign of coming off. That is also with a brutal winter of snow and ice. Just thought you might want to know that you don't HAVE to drill into the bumper for the rear aero flares.

But the side flares you have no choice.

Thanks for the tips everyone - I think I'll go ahead and order everything now...
I'm especially glad for Mugata's advice - I hated the idea of drilling holes into the bumper so I'm going to try the double sided tape idea too!
