HELP! new wing decision...

ok I am new here all so bear with me... :D I just bought a brand new 2005 Titanium 8, and I am very excited... I need some ideas... I really want a Fast and Furious style wing, so please try your hardest not to flame... here's a few I like and was wondering if anyone had experience with these at all... also size is a little hard to figure out... so far 54" looks ok, but what do you all think? thanks for your help...

I really like the first one, and can get it pretty cheap ($150 shipped...) but it is black fiberglass... hmmm what to do...

also one more thing... I live in The Woodlands, TX (Houston) any ideas of a decent installer for this project???
thanks!

Ryan

you're gonna get flamed..
you see that picture of the eclipse in the second photo... that's the kinda car you put a wing like that on.. I'm sorry, but you don't put a GT wing on the 8. Put an RX7 style wing or a mazdaspeed wing on it, but not a GT wing.

hmmm, i've never been a big fan of the GT style spoilers... actually, i dont really care for the MS wing either. To me, flush mounts look the best. I kinda like the OEM wing that comes on the European spec 8's... Hopefully, some aftermarkter company will come out with one i like soon.

On another note, i say do whatever you feel is best for your own car. Remember, YOU are the one driving it, so YOU should make the decisions whether or not YOU like something on your OWN car or not.

My 2 cents, if indeed its actually worth that much...

What's wrong with you???

Why do you want to ruin the beautiful clean lines of your 8 with a clothes hanger bolted to your decklid?

To each his own but...look at the positive side of things...if you park it near a park, you will always have a park bench if the park is crowded. Just don't leave it near a park at night as you might find a homeless person covered in news papers asleep on it with their shopping car denting your doors.

Also, if you go to any tail gate parties, you could lay out a buffet on that thing, how handy would that be? You could have your own serving line.

But seriously, what I said above is not meant to be flaming you as a word to the wise here. You will hear all of this from a lot of members here, please remember, do not take it personally, there are wisecrackers everywhere.

To me, you do with your RX-8 what you want to, put on a big CF wing, slap stickers on the sides, tops and back, put a nice vinyl of a T-Rex dinosaur (Sorry Raz :D) go with 20" rims with spinners, this is your car, it is yours to do those things that some would love to do and some would roll their eyes at. Just remember one thing, when you seek opinions here, they are like rectums, everyone has one...some are just bigger than others.

OH yeah, one last thing....do not go over 100 with a wing like that...you'll need a pilot's license to fly off the ground.

C'mon guys, everyone has the right to make their car look the way they want it to. If he wants a big wing, thats up to him. If you can help him out w/ his questions, then help him out, if not, no comment is neccessary.

"here's a few I like and was wondering if anyone had experience with these at all... also size is a little hard to figure out... so far 54" looks ok, but what do you all think? thanks for your help..."

IMO those spoilers are to big. If you gotta pick one go with the first.

I agree wholeheartedly. Just be prepared if you post pics of it or if someone posts a pic of it for the lashing. Be warned! lol

I doubt you'll get much help on this forum for your question. They can't keep thier opinions to themselves on certain issues

My recomendation is to search cardomain and google for people/tuning shops with modified Rx-8's with wings and email them about the units they used, installation experiance, and anything they would do differently given the option. They have the experiance as they have worked with the products you are interested in for the rx-8 application.

Those type of folks don't hang around this forum too much as this forum tends to be more aimed at preserving the the essance of the rx-8 as a sports car rather then import-style tuning and will often make their opinions well known. It doesn't make one camp or the other wrong, it's just a different focus here.

I think you should go with a triple decker wing, preferrably chrome. The bigger the better. Downforce is good.

apr has a gt/"drag" hybrid wing that looks really nifty

http://www.aprperformance.com/produc...ID=AS%2D105957

also has shots of a board member's 8.. it's nice, follows most of the lines, and isn't 2' tall..

also, again, I like this kind of styling, but the reality is most of the folks around here are in there 30s and 40s and they think the ms styling is too extreme.. do what you like, be original, and shrug when people whine at you.. you're not changing their cars, this is your car. It's not your fault you're not having a midlife crisis.

55" wide is perfect for the 8 about 4" tall at max (same height as stock almost) looks respectable IMO for a gt style wing.

my car same wing dimensions as above.

thought about the MS wing, i think it looks nice but it wasnt the look i was after. also price was a factor and at the time i was deciding on a wing there was no CF version available.
